PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There's a dog at the Berkshire Humane Society who has been waiting for a new family. iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home. Lola is a three year old terrier and Pitbull mix. She can take a minute to warm up to new people. Canine caregiver and adoption counselor Simone Olivieri told us about Lola. "Lola can be a little bit shy and nervous with new people at first, but it really doesn't take her too long to warm up to people, because she loves food and she also loves to play," Olivieri said.  PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The City Council OKed an expansion of Walmart, but not without pushback on parking lot conditions and the promotion of online ordering. The company requested to amend its site plan by converting about 1,600 square feet of the Pittsfield garden center, which is planned to be enclosed for an online ordering pickup center. As part of a nationwide effort, the store will undergo remodeling. "They basically create an entire space that's basically like almost creating a very small fulfillment store so that when people do their online ordering, it can be filled faster," said Greg DiBona of Bohler Engineering, the firm hired by Walmart. PITTSFIELD, Mass.—A consultant recommended that the Pittsfield Public Schools enhance its human resources supports after a year of several staff investigations. On Wednesday, the School Committee received a presentation from the Collins Center for Public Management, which was contracted to review the district's HR, hiring, and retention processes. "A report with this kind of detail is, I think, what was needed at the outset," Chair William Cameron said. BCC to Hold Annual Harvest Run10:30AM / Tuesday, October 14, 2025 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass — Berkshire Community College (BCC)'s annual Harvest Run will be held Saturday, Nov. 1. The event, led by Integritus Healthcare, includes a 5K trail run. New this year is a high school cross country invitational, offering a chance for Berkshire County high school students to compete on their own level. Bib pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Paterson Field House, located on BCC's main campus at 1350 West Street in Pittsfield. The 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m., and the high school invitational begins at 10:30 a.m. The event includes a costume contest with the theme of Boomerang cartoons. Flushing of Pittsfield's Water System: Oct. 14-1707:49AM / Tuesday, October 14, 2025 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Tuesday, Oct. 14, marks the start of phase two for the fall flushing schedule of the City of Pittsfield's water system as phase 1 is now complete. Water mains will continue to be flushed through hydrants over the next several weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products. This biannual process occurs twice a year, typically in the spring and the fall. Mains will be flushed Monday through Friday each week, except holidays, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. This phase of flushing is expected to occur between Oct. 14 and Oct. 17. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The School Building Needs Commission recognizes that it has a significant amount of work ahead of it related to the proposed Crosby/Conte rebuild. Last week, members mapped out a path forward as the city approaches a possible feasibility study for a rebuild of Crosby Elementary School and Conte Community School on the West Street site. After being accepted into the Massachusetts School Building Authority's queue in late 2024, the proposal is entering a "scope definition" phase where it has local authorization for feasibility study funds and the project team starts to come together.
