PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, over two dozen community members will participate in a weekend-long Harm Reduction "Days of Action" across Berkshire County. Volunteers will distribute lifesaving overdose prevention supplies, resources, and knowledge to residents in areas with higher ratios of opioid-related emergency 911 calls. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The annual Pumpkin Carving Spooktacular is back at the Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library, on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Youth of all ages are invited to the Library, where there will be free pumpkins available along with all the tools and decorations. PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The Board of Health wants to apply its expertise to the proposed public camping ordinance and curb negative effects on unhoused community members.
Later this month, the board will give its input to the City Council after requesting that it be included in the conversation.
"We have a mandate. It is a public health issue, and in that, I think we also can do some real good," Chair Roberta Elliott said during last week's BOH meeting.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The City Council OKed an expansion of Walmart, but not without pushback on parking lot conditions and the promotion of online ordering.
The company requested to amend its site plan by converting about 1,600 square feet of the Pittsfield garden center, which is planned to be enclosed for an online ordering pickup center. As part of a nationwide effort, the store will undergo remodeling.
"They basically create an entire space that's basically like almost creating a very small fulfillment store so that when people do their online ordering, it can be filled faster," said Greg DiBona of Bohler Engineering, the firm hired by Walmart.

PITTSFIELD, Mass.—A consultant recommended that the Pittsfield Public Schools enhance its human resources supports after a year of several staff investigations.
On Wednesday, the School Committee received a presentation from the Collins Center for Public Management, which was contracted to review the district's HR, hiring, and retention processes.
"A report with this kind of detail is, I think, what was needed at the outset," Chair William Cameron said.
"And now we have to use the recommendations you're making and put them into effect on a schedule that we can accommodate and that will improve the way we operate."

PITTSFIELD, Mass — Berkshire Community College (BCC)'s annual Harvest Run will be held Saturday, Nov. 1. The event, led by Integritus Healthcare, includes a 5K trail run. New this year is a high school cross country invitational, offering a chance for Berkshire County high school students to compete on their own level. Bib pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Paterson Field House, located on BCC's main campus at 1350 West Street in Pittsfield. The 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m., and the high school invitational begins at 10:30 a.m. The event includes a costume contest with the theme of Boomerang cartoons.
