Roads Near BCC to Host Thankful 5K Thanksgiving Morning

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The eighth running of the MountainOne Thankful 5K currently has more than 400 registered walkers and runners to take to the road on Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m. from Berkshire Community College.   Drivers are asked to be aware of the increased activity along the half mile stretch from Meadow Ridge Drive to Berkshire Community College.   Registration for the event will continue in person at Berkshire Running Center on Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. There is no day-of registration, although pre-registered runners can pick up their bibs the morning of the race from 7:30 to 8:30.   The 5K course will start on West Street just past the college and lead

National Grid Prepared for Thanksgiving Week Storm

WALTHAM, Mass. — National Grid is preparing for storm activity that is expected to impact Massachusetts Tuesday evening through Wednesday, bringing hazardous wind gusts and a mix of rain and snow into the region.   Rain, snow and gusting winds have the potential to bring down trees and limbs and knock down power wires, causing power outages in impacted locations. Thanksgiving Angels Descend with Meal Kits for Residents

Berkshire United Way President Thomas Bernard and state Sen. Paul Mark. United Way gave administrative support to the Thanksgiving Angels this year; the senator was in charge of handling the turkeys for pickup. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Upwards of 2,000 families will have their tables filled by the Thanksgiving Angels this year.

For more than a decade, dozens of religious and community organizations have worked together to create free meal kits for those who would otherwise go without. These include everything needed for a Thanksgiving spread — even the turkey.

'Ghost Bike' Memorializes Road Traffic Victims at Pittsfield City Hall

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pairs of shoes were solemnly placed next to a "ghost bike" in front of City Hall on Sunday, the annual World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

Countywide, there have been nine people killed in pedestrian or traffic incidents this year and many seriously injured.

Deliberations for Ray Robert Excavation & Trucking Special Permit Set for Dec.

DALTON, Mass. — The fate of Ray Robert Excavation & Trucking's request for a new special permit remains unclear.    Last month the Planning Board voted to continue the public hearing to November and originally intended on making a decision during last Wednesday night's meeting, which was heavily attended by neighbors and other community member.    However, due to additional revision requests to the permit, the board decided to push deliberations to Dec. 20 so that these changes can be reviewed. BCC to Participate in Space Flight Experiment

PITTSFIELD, Mass — Berkshire Community College (BCC) has been selected by the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP)'s Mission 18 to participate in a microgravity research  experiment headed to the International Space Station (ISS).    The BCC experiment, which is currently under development, will be announced closer to launch date. State Fire Marshal Urges Cooking Safety on Thanksgiving

STOW—With Thanksgiving just a week away, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine is urging residents to make fire safety a priority in the kitchen as we approach the number one day for home fires in Massachusetts.

"There are about twice as many fires on Thanksgiving as on the next-closest day, and almost all of them start with unsafe cooking practices," said State Fire Marshal Davine. "Don’t let a fire ruin this special day with your family and loved ones.  Practice fire safety when cooking and heating your home, and be sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that can alert you to danger."

Pittsfield Affordable Housing Trust Launches Survey

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Affordable Housing Trust has launched a survey to get a better understanding of community needs.

"The survey is on the (city) website. We have a designated wave web page, we have a QR code for people to fill out and complete the survey," Director of Community Development Justine Dodds said on Wednesday.
