New Berkshires ABA Basketball Franchise Holds Tryouts this Weekend

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The largest professional sports league in the world is coming to the Berkshires, and the league’s newest owner is looking to find local talent to fill out his roster.   Ellis Green acquired a franchise in the American Basketball Association with hopes of giving players a chance “to express their love and dedication to the game.”   This weekend at the Berkshire Family YMCA, aspiring pros will have a chance to prove their skills and earn a spot on the Berkshire Mountaineers, who are set to launch their inaugural season this fall.   Tryouts are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 292 North St. facility. Dalton Approves Warren Farm Solar Easement

DALTON, Mass. — The easement for Warren Farm Solar LLC was approved during the Select Board meeting Monday night.    Citizens Energy, a non-profit energy company, is planning a 13-acre solar farm off Bridle Road.    An easement was agreed upon following several negotiations between the town and Citizens Energy's lawyers, Town Manager Tom Hutcheson said. Department of Public Works Edward Hall and everyone involved with the special permit was also involved in the agreement and approved of it.    The easement grants the nonprofit unobstructed access between Bridle Road and the farm's landfill, located off Park Street Extension, outside of the

Northampton Fire Chief Named State Fire Marshal

Chief Jon M. Davine BOSTON — Northampton Fire Chief Jon M. Davine, who has nearly 25 years of experience as a firefighter, has been selected as the next state fire marshal.   By statute, the authority for selecting the state fire marshal rests with the eight-member Fire Service Commission. Davine, who has been chief of Northampton Fire Rescue since 2020, was selected by the commission at its June 15 meeting and will assume his new position on July 31.    He succeeds outgoing State Fire Marshal Peter J. Housatonic River Cleanup Set Saturday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Three mayoral candidates delved into housing, taxes, and city economics during a debate hosted by streaming show "It's Pittsfield Tonight" last week.

State Allocates $330K for 2 Berkshire Dam Projects

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two Berkshire County dam projects were among 21 across the state receiving funding from the state's Dam and Seawall Program.   Pittsfield's Sandwash Reservoir dam rehabilitation project is receiving $250,000 toward design and permitting; the Plunkett Dam spillway in Hinsdale is getting $82,500 for design and permitting.    The Sandwash Reservoir is owned by the city of Pittsfield but located in the town of Washington. It flows into the Farnham Reservoir and from there into the Ashley intake to the Ashley Water Treatment Plant. While considered low risk as of 2019, a breach of the dam would send up to 260 million gallons of water into both

Lenox Soccer Program Seeks Newcomers from Pre-K to Fourth Grade

LENOX, Mass. -- Beginning soccer players in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade are welcome to join the Mighty Kickers program this fall.   The development program is open to children from any community.
