Former Pittsfield Councilor John Krol to Run for Mayor

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — John Krol is returning to local politics after a two-year absence in a big way — with a bid for mayor.    Both Krol and Council President Peter Marchetti informally announced last week their intent to run for the corner office in the coming year. 18 Degrees Announces Next President and CEO

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The 18 Degrees Board of Directors has announced that Stephanie Steed will assume the position of president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2023.     Steed, a longtime employee of the agency and current vice president of programs, assumes the position following the departure of Sarah Cook, who is leaving Western Massachusetts to spend more time with family.     A native of Springfield, Steed has more than three decades of experience serving children, young people, and families. The Lantern Owners Seeking New Tenants

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Lantern Bar and Grill owners are looking into the historic eatery's future after it closed in April.

On Monday, Licensing Board approved an alcohol license transfer from previous owner North Street Eats LLC to 449 North RE LLC, a Mill Town Capital company that owns the real estate that includes The Lantern.

The intent is to find another tenant and it was reported that there is potential tenant in negotiations.

"Its role up to this point has been that of landlord and lender to the owner of North Street Eats LLC doing businesses as The Lantern," attorney Michael Macdonald explained on behalf of the applicant.

Pittsfield Committee Begins Review of City Code

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Ordinance Review Committee last week began its refining of the city’s 26-chapter City Code.

The panel mapped out a slate of changes to Chapters 1 and 2, which deal with general provisions and administration.

The changes addressed gender-neutral language, outdated items that no longer apply to the city, and occurrences of redundancy. A number of items were also tabled to collect more information.

"It makes a little more sense now what our goal is, and of what we're looking for," City Clerk Michele Benjamin said after reviewing former City Clerk Jody Phillips' notes on the chapters.

Pittsfield Cable Committee Prepping for Spectrum Contract Talks

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Residents will have the opportunity to speak on the renewal of the city's cable television license with Spectrum.    The city has less than two years left for its current 10-year contract with with Charter Communications Spectrum. For the next nine months, the newly reconstituted Cable Advisory Committee will be completing an "ascertainment" process in preparation for negotiating the new contract.    During this period, the committee will conduct public hearings at which residents have the opportunity to express their concerns regarding their cable services. State November Revenue Collections Total $2.382 Billion

BOSTON — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder today announced that preliminary revenue collections for November totaled $2.382 billion, $32 million or 1.3 percent less than actual collections in November 2021, but $221 million or 10.2 percent more than benchmark.   With the enactment of the FY2023 budget in late July, monthly revenue benchmarks were developed for the September 2022 through June 2023 period only.   FY2023 year-to-date collections totaled approximately $13.946 billion, which is $337 million or 2.5 percent more than collections in the same period of FY2022 and $749 million or 5.7 percent more than the year-to-date

Dalton Finance Committee Supports Higher Town Planner Pay

DALTON, Mass. — Following a lack of interest in the vacant town planner position, officials are in support of a pay bump on the next town budget.

On Wednesday, the Finance Committee supported Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson's request to advertise the yearly salary between $56,000 and $62,000 — some pay steps above the current $50,000 offering.

Dalton has not had a town planner since October and the job posting has only gotten four replies that boiled down to one qualified applicant.
