 DALTON, Mass. — Lucas Wildrick is this school year's recipient of the Superintendent's Award for Academic Excellence. Wildrick, a senior at Wahconah Regional High School, was presented with the award at the Nov. 9 Central Berkshire Regional School Committee meeting by Superintendent Leslie Blake-Davis. The Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents award is given to the student who has distinguished themselves by maintaining high academic standings and leadership endeavors. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y Pharmacy and Wellness Centers have administered over 30,000 flu shots this year, a record number for the chain. Health officials continue to make another urgent push to encourage the public to get vaccinated. In the US, this flu season has been one of the most significant in recent memory with nearly 20 million illnesses, 210,000 hospitalizations and 13,000 deaths from flu so far, according to CDC estimates.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The new estimated cost for the town's proposed combined police and ambulance facility is $5.9 million, which is lower than what the committee expected for the project. Police Station Committee Chair Kristen Tool presented the estimate, which includes about $4.7 million in fixed costs and $750,000 in soft costs, to the Select Board on Monday. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC), in partnership with Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), has been awarded a multi-year Community College Campus Hunger Program Grant in the amount of $180,000. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A search warrant was executed on Jan. 10 at 29 Alden Ave in Pittsfield by the Pittsfield Police and State Police resulting in the arrest of Alan J. Ramos. Upon execution of the search warrant, the Pittsfield Police and State Police Berkshire County Detective Unit seized 90 grams of methamphetamine, 45 grams of heroin, and 30 grams of cocaine amounting to approximately $31,500 street value of illegal narcotics and over $6,000 in cash at the residence. Ramos was arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court on drug trafficking charges. District Attorney Shugrue led the arraignment. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council went through 14 petitions in just over an hour on Tuesday. These included retiree cost-of-living adjustments from 3 percent to a maximum of 5 percent, a deed of lieu of foreclosure for three properties on Robbins Avenue, and a couple of referrals.
By approving the COLA order, the council accepted Chapter 269 of the Acts of 2022,
"An Act Relative to Cost-of-Living Adjustments for Retirees," which was signed into law by former Gov. Charlie Baker in November.
This allows for an increase in the fiscal year 2023 COLA on the base amount of a retiree's pension of $16,000. The board of the Pittsfield Contributory Retirement System voted in

DALTON, Mass. — Town Manager Tom Hutcheson informed the Green Dalton Committee last Wednesday that Hill Engineering confused the Town Hall/Library project with another project that had been put on hold. It is unclear how the engineering company got that idea but Building Grounds Superintendent Patrick Pettit informed them to resume working on the project, Hutcheson said. Hill Engineering is working on two roof studies for the town. One is for the library to see if the roof can be insulated and the other is for Town Hall to see if the roof structure can support solar panels.
