Pittsfield and State Clash Over Causeway Project, Causing Delay

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city and the state Department of Transportation are clashing over logistics of the Dan Casey Memorial Drive reconstruction, halting its progress.

The Public Works and Utilities subcommittee on Monday heard an update on the project per the request of resident Daniel Miraglia. The often flooded area is the subject of a more than million-dollar reconstruction that includes replacing the causeway's three existing culverts.

Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales reported that the city is "in a sense kind of fighting with the state" about the design. It was supposed to go out to bid in 2022.

Pittsfield, North Adams Support Paint Stewardship Program

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The county's two cities are backing paint stewardship legislation currently in the Legislature.   Pittsfield's City Council last week voted unanimously to support a resolution requesting the Legislature act favorably on the bill before the House Ways & Means Committee. Pittsfield Police Seek Info on Armed Robbery

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are looking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a recent armed robbery.   Lipton Mart gas station located at 320 West Housatonic St. was robbed shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, by a man brandishing a black handgun.    The subject left with an undisclosed amount of cash along with a few other items. He is believed to have come from the Barker Road area and left heading north on Britton Street toward the train tracks.     The suspect is described as a white male standing 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 and wearing gray ripped jeans, black sneakers, a blue "Patriots" short-sleeve hoodie

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After much debate and some alterations, the City Council approved a special permit for a car wash at the former Dakota Steakhouse.

Lipton, Inc. plans to build a "tunnel" type 4,200 square foot facility that can wash up to 150 cars per hour. The site, located at 1035 South St., housed the well-known steakhouse until about a decade ago and was most recently occupied by Enso Bistro.

Air Quality Analysis Required for State Permits Near Certain Populations

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll administration moved to address air quality issues in or near environmental justice areas by announcing amendments to state air pollution regulations.
