1Berkshire Announces USDA Funded Winter 2025 Technical Assistance Offerings

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 1Berkshire, thanks in part to funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), announced its upcoming slate of technical assistance offerings through the Berkshire Economic Recovery Program (BERP).   Through its series of cohorts spanning nearly four years, the Berkshire Economic Recovery Program Technical Assistance series has been able to support more than 200 businesses through targeted training and focused convenings and quantified by over $2,500,000 in funding collectively accessed by businesses through their participation.    Going into the Winter of 2025, the program will continue on with three upcoming cohorts. BRTA Looking for 50-Year Customers to Celebrate their Loyalty

BCC Offers Free EMT Basic Training Course

PITTSFIELD, Mass — The Workforce & Community Education Program at Berkshire Community College (BCC) presents an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) basic training course from Jan. 23 through April 26, 2025.    Two class times will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays, either noon-4 p.m. or 6-10 p.m., plus every other Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuition is grant-funded for eligible applicants. Pittsfield Licensing Board Greenlights Nissan Dealership

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nissan of Pittsfield will operate under new ownership as "Bella Nissan of Pittsfield" after a problematic past.

On Monday, the Licensing Board approved a 2024 Class 1 auto dealer license for the 25 West Housatonic St. business. New owners Javier Columbie and Benjamin Farber want to turn the dealership around after it was investigated for failing to pay off the loans on trade-ins, among other complaints.

Bella Nissan of Pittsfield will have to pay a renewal fee for 2025, but the company wanted to prevent the business from "going dark" in the interim. During the meeting, the former license owned by Team Nissan Inc., which expires on Dec. 31,

Wahconah Senior Presented 2024 Superintendents Award

South Community Food Pantry Holiday Gift Card Fundraiser

BCC Spring Semester Starts Jan. 21

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) begins its spring semester Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2023.

A variety of learning options is offered, including in-person, online and hybrid. Fully online options are now available for associate degrees and certificates in business, medical coding and liberal arts.  

Thanks to funding from the Commonwealth, community college tuition is free for most students who do not hold a bachelor's degree or higher. Some students are also eligible for free books and supplies.

EPA Extends Deadline for Evaluating PCB Reduction Proposals at GE/Housatonic Site

Second PHS Staff Member Put on Administrative Leave

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— A Pittsfield High School staff member has been put on administrative leave because of an investigation being conducted by the state Department of Children and Families.

This is the second PHS staff member put on leave in the last week.

On Monday, Superintendent Joseph Curtis contacted the Pittsfield Public Schools community reporting that on Friday, Dec. 13, the district was formally notified of an investigation being conducted by DCF.

Pittsfield Allocates All ARPA Funds

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — All of the city's American Rescue Plan Act monies have been allocated to meet the state's end-of-year deadline.

Pittsfield received $40.6 million from a $1.86 trillion pandemic relief bill signed by President Joseph Biden in 2021. The historic allocation of funds went toward public health, negative economic impacts, infrastructure, revenue replacement, and administration.

More than half of the allocated funds address negative economic impacts, totaling more than $25 million. Infrastructure accounted for $6.4

Superior Court Briefs: Motor Vehicle Homicide, Armed Robbery, Assault

Driver in 2023 Fatal Crash Guilty of Vehicular Homicide   Gilberto Franciapena, 31, pleaded guilty on Dec. 12 to negligent motor vehicle homicide in a fatal incident in 2023.   The defendant was sentenced to two years' probation, a loss of license for 15 years, and 100 hours of community service. The commonwealth requested a two-year suspended sentence and loss of license for 15 years.   Franciapena was eastbound on the Massachusetts Turnpike at about 8 a.m. on April 20, 2023, when the red 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving flipped at about the 1.8-mile marker in West Stockbridge.    There were five occupants in the vehicle. Pittsfield Man Charged in Harvard Street Stabbing

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A Pittsfield man has been charged with stabbing two people on Harvard Street last week.

Jacob Frusciente, 32, of Daniels Avenue was arraigned Thursday in Central Berkshire District Court on single counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury.      Frusciente was ordered to be held on $50,000 cash bail pending a mental health evaluation.   According to police, officers responded to the report of a stabbing at a Harvard Street home about midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
