 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 'Tis the season! The city will light its permanent Christmas tree for the second time in early December.
The Parks Commission last week approved the annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 6, beginning at 6 p.m. It will include warm beverages, pictures with the Grinch, and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
"It will have all the fun annual tradition things we usually do. Santa will come on a fire truck, hot cocoa will be available," Park, Open Space and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath said.

DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District will hold a special town meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Stationary Factory to appropriate funds for the purchase of an ambulance. The district is requesting the voters authorize borrowing up to $350,000 for the purchase of a new ambulance and any costs related to the purchase. During a meeting at the beginning of November, interim Fire Chief Chris Cachat informed the Board of Water Commissioners that an ambulance had unexpectedly become available. In turn, these food banks support local soup kitchens, food pantries, senior food programs, day care centers and many others through 2100-member agencies that they assist every day. PITTSFIELD, Mass.— After two years of preparation, the City Council has adopted a surveillance technology ordinance regarding police body cameras and other equipment.
On Tuesday, a petition from Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren amending the City Code by adding Chapter 18 ½, Surveillance Technology Oversight, was approved. Warren has championed this effort since 2022— before a five-year contract with body and dash cams was approved.
The ordinance will take effect 180 days after its adoption.
It is based on the Town of Amherst's modified version of the City of Cambridge Ordinance that uses an American Civil Liberties Union model for community control

STOW, Mass. — State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine is asking residents to practice fire safety in the kitchen on the number one day for home fires in Massachusetts. "There are about twice as many fires on Thanksgiving as on the next-closest day, and almost all of them start with unsafe cooking," said State Fire Marshal Davine. "Don’t let a fire ruin this special day with your family and loved ones. Practice fire safety when cooking and heating your home, and be sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that can alert you to danger." PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The incoming owners of Nissan of Pittsfield want to turn the dealership around after it allegedly left multiple customers "in the hole."
On Monday, the Licensing Board heard from police, customers, and the prospective new owners during a show-cause hearing for its auto dealer license. Located at 25 West Housatonic St., the dealership was investigated for failing to pay off the loans on trade-ins.
