PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Roots Rising's Handmade Holiday Festival, a curated holiday market and Berkshire winter tradition, is back. On Nov. 25 and 26 this holiday festival will celebrate its twelfth year and fill the first floor of The Stationery Factory with over 50 local artisans, makers, and food producers. Shoppers can enjoy delicious prepared food and live music to keep them feeling festive and fueled. And a special children's craft-making zone by Berkshire Art Center runs throughout the weekend where every budding artisan can leave with a homemade gift.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There will be a Thanksgiving meal at the Dream Center on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23. A full restaurant-style meal will be served in the dining room from 4:30-5:30 pm. There will be a take-out hour from 6:00-7:00 pm. There will be live music and homemade pies. The Berkshire Dream Center is located at 475 Tyler St. The Dream Center anticipates serving more than 300 people. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Zebra mussel eDNA has been detected at Onota Lake by the Commonwealth's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). This discovery was made as part of regular monitoring of the lake for these types of invasive species. This detection only impacts boating operations at the lake and has no impact to other recreational uses of the lake. Zebra mussels are invasive freshwater mollusks that present a variety of ecological, recreational, and economic concerns. State Reps. John Barrett III and Tricia Farley-Bouvier and state Sen. Paul Mark join with President Ellen Kennedy for the announcement. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Health-care students without a prior degree are getting a boost from the state through the Community College Nursing Scholarship Program.
This news was celebrated in Berkshire Community College's SIM lab on Monday with legislators, students, and staff. College President Ellen Kennedy explained that the new program allows students to attend nursing and pre-nursing programs for free.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The eighth running of the MountainOne Thankful 5K currently has more than 400 registered walkers and runners to take to the road on Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m. from Berkshire Community College. Drivers are asked to be aware of the increased activity along the half mile stretch from Meadow Ridge Drive to Berkshire Community College. Registration for the event will continue in person at Berkshire Running Center on Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. There is no day-of registration, although pre-registered runners can pick up their bibs the morning of the race from 7:30 to 8:30. United Way gave administrative support to the Thanksgiving Angels this year; the senator was in charge of handling the turkeys for pickup. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Upwards of 2,000 families will have their tables filled by the Thanksgiving Angels this year.
For more than a decade, dozens of religious and community organizations have worked together to create free meal kits for those who would otherwise go without. These include everything needed for a Thanksgiving spread — even the turkey.

DALTON, Mass. — The fate of Ray Robert Excavation & Trucking's request for a new special permit remains unclear. Last month the Planning Board voted to continue the public hearing to November and originally intended on making a decision during last Wednesday night's meeting, which was heavily attended by neighbors and other community member. PITTSFIELD, Mass — Berkshire Community College (BCC) has been selected by the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP)'s Mission 18 to participate in a microgravity research experiment headed to the International Space Station (ISS). The BCC experiment, which is currently under development, will be announced closer to launch date. The target date for the selection of the Mission 18 flight experiments is Dec. 15, 2023, while the launch is planned for spring or summer 2024.
