PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Residents of Berkshire County can get their cat spayed or neutered for a $50 registration fee, which includes surgery and a rabies vaccination, through a grant awarded to Berkshire Humane Society from Massachusetts Animal Coalition's license plate program. This is the 9th year the shelter has received an award to support 100 Cats for the Holidays, a low-cost spay and neuter initiative. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — While some may be busy preparing turkeys and sides for Thursday's big feast, others may want to go out on the town and connect with old friends the night before. The night before Thanksgiving, has become a popular bar night for adults largely because people are home for the holiday.
Last year, BeerBoard reported an more than 62 percent rise in on-premise alcohol sales the night before Thanksgiving compared to the previous Wednesday.
Urban Dictionary describes the unofficial holiday as "one of the biggest party nights of the year since this is the start of Thanksgiving weekend and most people are home for the holidays at this time."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With a new state administration taking over next year, the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission on Thursday discussed its priorities for the county. "We have an opportunity that only comes along every few years really where we have a new administration coming in," Executive Director Thomas Matuszko said to the committee last week.
He pointed out that Gov.-elect Maura Healey and Lt. Gov.-elect Kim Driscoll have announced the formation of transition policy committees and said it is important to advocate for county priorities when Healey and Driscoll take office.

Pittsfield Police Investigating Onota St. Shooting Incident Staff Reports ,

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are investigating a shooting on Onota Street that resulted in no injuries. On Nov. 21, at approximately 7:42 PM, Pittsfield Police officers were dispatched to the area of 242 Onota Street for a ShotSpotter activation. Upon their arrival, officers spoke with a witness who reported seeing a man wearing all black clothing fleeing from the scene after the shooting, heading towards Chestnut Street, according to police. A house on Onota Street was also struck several times by gunfire. The K9 unit conducted a track in the area. An area search was conducted but no one was found. An Affordable Housing Proposal
Units of affordable housing in Berkshire County need not be created with a one size fits all mindset. Affordable for who? Very often affordable housing is very costly, even excessively so for its creators or municipalities.
Here are some ground rules for a modest proposal taking these issues into consideration. First, not all units have to be built/completed at once. They can be put into place/built over a number of years, as budgets permit. Infrastructure costs should be kept low by using very close-by already existing infra structure.

"We invite some people from the local community outside of our walls so that we can kind of include and provide education to our local community," Social Services Director Patti Janchuk said. Since 1888, the Residences at 89 South, a senior living community that is open to the public, has been a local non-profit dedicated to healthcare and business professionals from the community.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nearly 1,800 families' tables will be set with a turkey and all of the fixings on Thursday thanks to the Thanksgiving Angels. The program, now in its 15th year, addresses food insecurity by providing a meal kit to those in need so that everyone can enjoy a holiday feast.
The program has over 20 participating organizations, food pantries, and faith communities. This amounts to hundreds of volunteers.
"It's a great community effort," Program coordinator Mary Wheat said. "There are people from everywhere helping."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After Berkshire Community College's first Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program was held last spring, the College's Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program decided to offer it again this semester.
