Making February Break Dreams Come True in the BerkshiresBy Kim McMann, iBerkshires correspondent 05:43AM / Saturday, March 02, 2024 | | HANCOCK, Mass. — Last weekend a steady stream of cars carried families who enjoyed their annual February break ski vacation in the Berkshires back to their daily routines, their kids brimming with exciting stories of skiing, snowboarding, tubing and more. Among them were Ellary Kinnane and Greta Baier, two high school sophomores with a rather unique tale of their own skiing adventure. Kinnane, 15, and Baier, 16, are diagnosed with nemaline myopathy, and several other medical conditions. Nemaline myopathy is a rare progressive disorder of the muscular system, which requires the girls to breathe with the help of respirators. The weakness also affects Ellary's 0 Comments Read More >> |

"I think it's a great reuse of a property with both a training and education piece and a community development piece," Mayor Peter Marchetti said. Early this year, the nonprofit human service agency closed on the property when former owners Dave and Andrea Blessing sold Jodi's after 40 years in operation. @theMarket: Tech Takes Break as Other Sectors Play Catch-upBy Bill Schmick, 04:46PM / Friday, March 01, 2024 | | One of the main complaints of market watchers has been the narrow breadth of the stock market. Few areas, besides the handful of tech stocks, have participated in the bull market this year. That has changed. Biotech, crypto, financials, industrials, and even the staid healthcare sector have come to life this week. The Russell 2000 small-cap index outperformed as well. In the meantime, the Mag 7 and AI 5 marked time. As I warned readers last week, I thought stocks were due for a little consolidation as traders took profits on some of the large gains accrued over the last two months. The fact that large-cap tech sold off and the markets barely budged was meaningful to me. It is 0 Comments Read More >> |

PITTSFIELD, Mass. The need for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding is increasing but the budget is not. On Wednesday, the city hosted a hearing for the Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Action Plan and input on fair housing. Many expressed gratitude for CDBG funding and emphasized its importance. Rosalind Kopfstein, chair of the Human Services Advisory Council, has been frustrated to see the number fluctuate over the years. She said it was "very very low" at this point. "The frustration is you give us the full amount that you're allowed to from the federal fund, but there's so many worthy organizations that really need more funding," she

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — An army of construction vehicles can be seen cracking and crushing the surface of Site 9. "It's pretty amazing the amount of work that is going on over there," Business Development Manager Michael Coakley said to the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority on Thursday. "There is a lot of equipment they have and it's pretty great, 12 or 13 of those big huge construction pieces of equipment." Crews are working to excavate the area and bring fill over from another site by working in thirds, starting on the southern portion of the property and working towards the middle. The long-anticipated project took off earlier this year after a

The Retired Investor: The Economics of Taylor SwiftBy Bill Schmick, 05:42PM / Thursday, February 29, 2024 | | At this point, few would question the economic impact that Taylor Swift has had on the world. The sheer level of spending the singer has triggered among consumers is breathtaking. The ripple effect of her business affairs has produced unexpected profits for many corporations and even countries worldwide. No wonder she is the only person from the world of entertainment to ever be on the cover of Time magazine. In my day, Michael Jackson was the pop star who took the world by storm. The "gloved one" was the record breaker in the music and entertainment business every week. He made millions for himself and others. But Taylor Swift, the "anti-hero" singer who has 0 Comments Read More >> |
