Memberships are open and ongoing for the 9 South Atlantic Avenue drop off location. The program runs continuously all year, through all 4 seasons. Memberships start at $9.99 per month, offering unlimited drop off of household food scraps to the location each month. Members save their food scraps at home, and at their convenience, bring them to 9 South Atlantic Avenue and drop their material into the tote.  PITTSFIELD, Mass — Second Street Second Chances has elected four new members to its Board of Directors: Charlie Catacalos, Becky Crane, Daniel Lowenstein and Roberta McCulloch-Dews. Charlie Catacalos, a newcomer to the Berkshires, grew up in Maryland near Washington, D.C. After attending Temple University in Philadelphia, they spent half a year working in cultural institutions in the Adirondacks. They eventually found their way to North Adams, where they have resided for the past two years. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A man has been charged for allegedly robbing the Beacon Cinema over the weekend. On Monday, Kyle Richard Wilbur, 32, was arraigned in Pittsfield District Court for Armed Robbery after being identified as the perpetrator of a robbery at the movie theater on Friday around 10:18 p.m. Police responded to a reported armed robbery at 57 North Street where a man claimed to have a weapon and demanded money from a staff member. After receiving the money, he reportedly fled the scene and was later located by law enforcement based on a provided description and direction of travel. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Tuesday the City Council will see requested funds for Department of Public Services work and an update on various street maintenance projects.
Mayor Peter Marchetti has requested to borrow $650,000.00 under the Sewer Enterprise Fund for the sewer main on Holmes Road and to pay a previous year's expense of almost $49,000 to the DPS following an "administrative oversight."
Marchetti reported that the replacement of the main is necessary to provide sewer access to properties currently without it.
"The approximately 700 feet extension includes installing two deep manholes and will provide sewer access to properties currently without it,"

New Faculty/Staff Sanah Fouz joins BCC as Assistant Professor of Nursing. She currently resides in her home town of Pittsfield. Fouz is a graduate of BCC and earned a bachelor's degree from College of Our Lady of the Elms. Most recently, she worked as a staff nurse at Berkshire Medical Center for nine years. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With a sizable grant from the state, the former Polish Community Club is eyed for a 40-unit housing development that adds four additional buildings to the property. On Wednesday, the Affordable Housing Trust heard from developer Robert Shan about the project that could cost as much as $20 million. Planners are vying for $10 million through the MassHousing CommonWealth Builder Program created to facilitate the construction of single-family homes and condominiums affordable to households with moderate incomes.

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced an investment of $50 million in initiatives to build out electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Massachusetts. Let's Go Paperless | This is from Ward 6 Councilor John Krol's eblast today. His switch to digital immediately caught our attention. With the associated costs - nearly $4,000 a year for paper alone! - zipping councilors "the packet" (as we in the know like to call it) over the ether makes loads of sense.
Digital also means the average citizen gets far better access to these public documents than ever before. The city clerk's office has been diligent about posting meeting agendas and, where possible, relevant documents. So in terms of saving money and time and getting information out efficiently, digital is the way to go.
I would like to thank City Clerk Linda Tyer for agreeing to print out one less city council packet, as I have officially gone paperless for council meetings - which I hope will be a trend that can be extended throughout city government.
 The bulky (and often, very bulky) city council packet that councilors use for a reference costs an average of $170 per meeting for paper alone. Add the additional costs of ink/toner, wear and tear on city hall copiers, and the time and energy of staff who put it all together - and a simple transition away from paper benefits everyone.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.
