Pittsfield Sees Updated Code Thanks to Review CommitteeBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Ordinance Review Committee was thanked for its "tremendous" amount of work to update the city code.
"You don't realize that something is dated until you see someone rewrite the same thing in a different way so I appreciate you updating the language to be a bit more present," Ward 5 Councilor Patrick Kavey said during a joint meeting of the committee and the subcommittee on Ordinances and Rules last week.
Since September 2022, the committee has worked to rid the code of outdated language, typos, duplications, and conflicts — including the addition of gender-neutral language throughout.
This is required by the city charter

 FLORENCE, Ala. -- The Berkshire Force 12-and-under travel softball team Sunday went 1-1 to finish pool play with a record of 2-2 at the Babe Ruth World Series. The Force began its day with an 18-2 win over the host team from Florence. Kaylana Altman homered and drove in three runs in the win. Daisy Caron and Victoria Blanchard each had a strong day at the plate. Caron was 2-for-2 with a triple and a pair of RBIs. Blanchard went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Keith Girouard and Program Coordinator Jayne Bellora in the SBDC office on Dunham Mall. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Keith Girouard, longtime regional director of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center, has announced his retirement at the end of this month.
Girouard joined the organization in December 2007 as a senior business adviser and became director of the Berkshire regional office in 2009. He has worked with more than 1,765 businesses and entrepreneurs, held 8,780 business advising sessions, and offered 12,660 business advising hours.

 LENOX, Mass. -- Brian Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a home run and a double on Sunday to lead the GB Millers to a 3-2 win over the Berkshire Bandits in the Berkshire Adult Baseball League's 20-and-over division. Rodriguez hit a one-out single in the bottom of the sixth and scored on Chip Paul's single to break a 2-2 tie as the Millers swept the regular season series from the Bandits, who came into Sunday's game a half-game behind GB for first place with two weekends left in the regular season. BOSTON, Mass. — Local unemployment rates increased in twenty-one of twenty-four labor market areas in the state during the month of June 2024 compared to May 2024, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported. Compared to June 2023, the rates were up in all twenty-four labor market areas. Of the fifteen areas for which employment estimates are published, all fifteen NECTA areas gained jobs compared to the previous month. The largest percentage increases occurred in the Barnstable Town (+6.2 percent), Pittsfield (+2.5 percent), and New Bedford (+2 percent) areas.  FLORENCE, Ala. – Giannah Moses went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run on Friday to lead the Berkshire Force 12-and-under travel softball team to a 7-3 win over Davidson, N.C., at the Babe Ruth World Series. The Force got just one other hit, a single from Cassidy Flynn, who finished with a pair of RBIs, on a day when it took advantage of five Davidson errors.  ANDOVER, Mass. – Melrose’s Dylan Cote drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday to give his team a 6-5 win over the Pittsfield Little League All-Stars in an elimination game at the State Tournament.
