PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The owners of a Valentine Road mobile home park are seeking rent increases of around 63 percent.

The Mobile Home Rent Control Board on Thursday will tackle a request from M.H. Communities, the owners of Lake Onota Village, to raise lot rents that currently range between $330 and $380 per month to between $540 and $590 per month over three years.

This represents an over $200 increase per month, four times the last rent increase of $50 issued in 2012, according to documents filed with the board.

"Over the stretch of the eleven-plus years since its last rent adjustment, however, the multiplying costs of services now result in calculation of a fair

Dalton Select Board Discusses Housing Rehabilitation Fund
By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff
05:15AM / Tuesday, March 05, 2024
DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board started initial discussions surrounding the possibility of implementing a housing rehabilitation fund.    During the two sessions at which this initiative was discussed, it was demonstrated that there are a lot of components that need to be considered to successfully implement a fund like this in a fiscally responsible and effective way.    "It takes a lot to administer a fund, especially if it's public money and you want to make sure it's being used well, and it's being overseen, and people are paying attention to what's going on, and scheduling cleaners, and working with the person, and all of that. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Fire Department is no longer in the plans for a new public safety building due to cost.

The chair of the Public Safety Building Committee updated the Select Board last week on the panel's progress after discovering that a fire station alone would cost $20 million and tabled from discussion.

"I just wanted everybody to know that we're slowly moving along," Chair Mark Siegars said. "It can seem like it's a slow process and it is because we try to make sure that people don't get overburdened and there's every opportunity for the public to participate."

After a nearly $6 million proposal was shot down at last

Pittsfield Historical Commission Plans Wahconah Park Project Support
By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff
05:12AM / Monday, March 04, 2024

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Historical Commission will draft a letter in support of revitalization efforts at Wahconah Park.

While the proposed project raises and rebuilds the historical grandstand, commissioners recognize it is necessary due to existing conditions.  One member of the panel has expressed a wish to see more historical materials used on the exterior.

"I think that we should be careful here for two reasons. Number one, because we're going to be supporting tearing down a structure that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and so to me, that means that our letter should be fairly specific about what we're supporting," Matthew Herzberg
