SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — As the colder weather arrives in New England, scammers are heating up their efforts. Among their constantly evolving methods, clever imposters are taking advantage of the winter months by posing as Eversource representatives and threatening to disconnect customers' power unless they make immediate payment on the spot. The energy company is reminding residents and businesses to be on the lookout for the signs of a scam whether it's in person, over the phone, or online.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A fifth public hearing was held over Zoom on Thursday on the revitalization proposal for Pontoosuc Lake Park.
The project is closer to breaking ground thanks to a $500,000 boost from the state Executive Office of Energy Environmental Affairs that will be matched by city funds. Construction is expected to begin in the summer after more than 20 years of discussion of the park's future. "What's going to be happening this summer, this is a long time coming for many of us and it's very exciting to see it come through," Ward 7 Councilor Rhonda Serre said.

The U.S. economy grew 3.3 percent in the fourth quarter, which was much higher than the estimates of 2.2 percent growth. For last year overall, the economy grew 2.5 percent. DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Water Commissioners voted on Tuesday to have its internal legal team negotiate a new contract for a fire truck with Northern Fire Equipment. The fire truck was ordered in late 2022 but its delivery date has been changed at least four time. Northern Fire Equipment has said staffing shortages, change orders and unexpected mechanical malfunctions have contributed to the delay.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Half of the work done on city roads since the turn of the century was completed in the last seven years.
Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales broke down the last few years of roadwork to the City Council on Tuesday. Fifty percent of the work done in 23 years was completed over the last seven with a significant increase in fiscal 2024.
