Pittsfield Housing Trust to Collaborate with CPA ApplicationsBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee and Affordable Housing Trust will collaborate for housing applications to clear up confusion and ensure that funds are being used wisely. After discussion amongst themselves and with the committee that handles Community Preservation Act funds, the trust mapped out a path forward of assisting with the process.
"When the city envisioned this affordable housing trust, one of the things we were responding to was the Community Preservation Committee saying that it would be helpful to have a board specifically focused on housing and housing projects," Director of Community Development Justine Dodds said.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield Department of Community Development is hosting a Zoom webinar on Thursday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss planned improvements to Pontoosuc Lake Park. The city was recently awarded a Massachusetts Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) grant to begin the plan implementation. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Beginning on Monday, January 22 at 5:30 p.m., Mayor Marchetti launches a new television program, "One Pittsfield with Mayor Peter Marchetti," that will air on Pittsfield Community Television. "I am excited to launch this new program as a way to increase the city's presence in the community while providing another forum for the public to learn about the work my administration is involved in on a regular basis," said Mayor Peter Marchetti. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — In its first meeting of the year, the Planning Board discussed ways to make rejected town meeting articles more palatable for residents.
The panel had supported drafting language for a 2,500-square-foot cap on the size of an accessory dwelling unit in response to the lack of housing availability in the community.
Voters rejected an article at the annual town meeting to remove the 900 square-foot cap on ADUs with concerns that people would build large structures on their property. With this new cap, the planners feel there is a chance of receiving support from townspeople.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With a memorandum of understanding settled, the pump track at Springside Park is closer to becoming a reality.
The Parks Commission on Tuesday approved a final draft MOU between the city, New England Mountain Bike Association, Shire Shredders, and Berkshire Mountain Bike Training Series. Milestone dates are currently not included in the document and will need to be updated once the project is closer to fruition. NEMBA plans to place a bicycle skills park and pump track near the north playground of the park at no cost to the city.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Unionized nurses and health-care professionals of the Berkshire Visiting Nurses Association have settled a contract after about two years of negotiation.
On Dec. 22, the union represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association ratified its first contract with Berkshire Health Systems. The vote had unanimous support from members who were satisfied with the contract’s wages and productivity standards.
Members see these components as crucial to preserving staff and quality of care.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Conservation Commission supports efforts to place a conservation restriction on a Knox Road property. At its first meeting of the year last Thursday, the panel voted to support joining the Berkshire Natural Resource Council to co-hold a conservation restriction on a 48-acre parcel of the Scace family farm. A formal vote will be taken at the next meeting and will have to be finalized by the mayor and city council.
"It's just about crossing the T's and dotting the I's," Chair and Ward 4 Councilor James Conant said.
The commissioners would like to see firmer documentation before the vote.

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Board of Early Education and Care unanimously approved the Healey-Driscoll Administration's changes to how the state reimburses early education and care providers who accept state child care financial assistance, known as rates. Child care providers across Massachusetts will start to receive at least a 5.5 percent increase to their daily per child reimbursement rate beginning in February 2024, an increase of over $2,000 a year on average per child.
