PITTSFIELD, Mass. — One incumbent was ousted in the City Council election and there will be multiple new faces on the council come January. Many councilors-elect are excited about the slate that was voted in on Tuesday night. Unofficial results show a 31.11 percent turnout, compared to the 2019 election's 42.4 percent turnout. A number of them attended Mayor-elect Peter Marchetti's party at the Berkshire Hills County Club. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Voters will elect a mayor, city clerk, City Council, and School Committee tomorrow. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and there are races in all but three wards — Wards 1, 4 and 5 — and School Committee. There is also one non-binding ballot question asking if there should be a residency requirement for the police chief, fire chief, and public services manager. Peter Marchetti, the current City Council president, and John Krol, a former councilor, are running to replace Mayor Linda Tyer in the corner office. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After some advocacy from local and federal entities, Pittsfield Community Television has added closed captioning for cable viewers. The organization implemented closed captioning for certain programs about a year ago but came to a roadblock when the captioning was coming through on streaming but not through cable boxes. It was restored after a complaint reached the hands of the Federal Communications Commission. Members of the Cable Advisory Committee agreed that this is a "great thing" as it provides better access to people who are hard of hearing and people who prefer to have the sound off. It was found that the city over-reported more than $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, which alarmed some councilors and members of the public. "We found that you over-reported two hundred something thousand expenditures between two quarters," Tom Scanlon of Scanlon and Associates explained. "It was with the Ashley Water Treatment Plant, I believe." The facility's chemical storage building was allocated $4.6 million and is supposed to be completed this season. BOSTON — Emergency Assistance Director Lt. General Scott Rice provided an update on next steps for the state's emergency family shelter system as it approaches its capacity limit.
