City of Pittsfield Announces Community Bike Ride

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Department of Community Development Recreation Program announces a Fall Foliage Community Bike Ride on Saturday, Oct. 14 on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail.   Participants are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m. at the Crane Avenue parking lot. The bike ride will start at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring their own bicycles and helmets are required for all riders.   The route will include 4 miles, on the paved trail, to Whitney's Farm Market for a stop. The group will then travel back 4 miles, ending at the Crane Avenue parking lot. During the stop at Whitney's Farm Market, there will be donuts, cider and other fall items

Flushing of Pittsfield's Water System: Sept. 25 to Oct. 3

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Monday, Sept. 25 marks the start of phase three for the fall flushing schedule of the City of Pittsfield's water system. Water mains throughout the city will be flushed through hydrants over the next several weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products.    Mains will be flushed Monday through Friday each week, except holidays, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. This phase of flushing is expected to occur between Sept. 25 through Oct. 3.   For Tuesday, Sept. 26 only, there also will be early morning flushing activity from 3-6 a.m.   The impacted area includes South Street/East Housatonic intersection to Charles and

BCC to Host the First Berkshire County Second Chances Job and Resource Fair

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC), in collaboration with the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction, 2nd Street, and MassHire Berkshire Career Center, will hold a Second Chances Job and Resource Fair.   They fair will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 4-7 pm at BCC's Paterson Field House, located at 1350 West Street in Pittsfield. ?    The job fair is free and open to the public. Dalton Library Upgrading Internet, Replacing Return Bin

DALTON, Mass. — The library trustees earlier this week voted for faster, better and more stable internet for patrons by upgrading its plan and its routers.   The library's primary provider Crocker, through CW Mars (the Central and Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing consortium), will have the the new routers hooked up by Oct. 1.    "The internet is an important service for the library," Treasurer Max Ehrlich said.    Interim Library Director Kimberly Gwilt informed the trustees that the library has been having ongoing issues with its internet, especially since it updated its computers in the spring.    She reached out to

Krol Says Money Story a 'Political Hit Piece,' Will Seek Legal Action

Dalton Officials Address Sidewalk Repairs

Pittsfield Spent 30% of ARPA Funds By Second Quarter

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city expended $2.7 million in American Rescue Plan Act monies in the second quarter of 2023 with over half spent on addressing negative economic impacts of COVID-19.

Pittsfield received the funds nearly two years ago and has expended more than $12 million of the nearly $41 million award.

"Through the end of June, we have reported a total of $12,400,000 in funds of use, which represents about 30 percent of our overall award today. Again, remember we can spend this money through the end of calendar year 2026," ARPA co-manager Deanna Ruffer reported to the City Council last week.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Department of Public Services and Utilities shared the following update Tuesday regarding the water system involving the Ashley Treatment Plant causing discolored water in the south and east areas of Pittsfield.   The source of the problem at the Ashley Treatment Plant has been identified. The reservoir outlet to the treatment plant experienced a sudden increase in turbidity levels, which exceeded the plant's processing capability.   Due to the quick and efficient response from the city's Water Treatment and Distribution Crews, the issue has been contained and all water delivered to residents has remained within safe drinking
