Pittsfield Police Investigating Fatal Stabbing | 10:00AM / Wednesday, September 13, 2023 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Authorities are investigating the fatal stabbing of a Pittsfield man on Tuesday night as a homicide. Police responded at about 10:45 p.m. to the report of a stabbing on Melville Street, near the intersection with First Street. A 42-year-old, who identity was not disclosed, was found at the scene. Officers, firefighters and Action Ambulance Personnel provided the victim with emergency medical care and he was transported to Berkshire Medical Center, where he later died. The investigation is being handled by the Pittsfield Police with assistance from the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire County District Attorney's 0 Comments

DALTON, Mass. — After nine years of navigating regulations that complicated the sale of the so-called Bardin property, the town has taken the last step in being rid of the land. The Select Board on Monday signed the purchase-and-sales agreement for the property, awarding it to Charlotte Lind Crane for the amount of $150,000. Of that amount, $25,000 has already been paid as a deposit. The state Department of Agricultural Resources now has 60 days to enact its right of first refusal. BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that MassDOT has received an additional $80 million in funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as part of the annual funding redistribution process. These redistribution funds represent federal transportation funds that were unable to be used for the programs to which they were originally allocated.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is now a Purple Heart Community and a portion of Route 20 is a Medal of Honor Highway.
The announcement was made during Monday's ceremony remembering the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon that left nearly 3,000 people dead, thousands wounded, and launched two of the nation's longest wars.
The memorial highway stretches more than 3,300 miles from Newport, Ore., to Boston, with Massachusetts as the last state to be added. The Veterans Memorial Park, where the ceremony was held, is on the route.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nearly 100 residents are up in arms about a traffic-calming measure for busy intersections.
On Tuesday, the City Council will tackle a citizens' petition that reads "To the City Council of Pittsfield- No more roundabouts."
The petition from Deborah Cooper has garnered nearly 90 signatures.
Last year, the problematic intersection of Tyler Street, Tyler Street Extension, Dalton Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue was converted into a roundabout. Data has shown that a roundabout decreases the rate of injury caused during crashes, though a slight increase in crashes has occurred in the first year.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Since launching a little over a year ago the nonprofit Second Street Second Chances has tripled its original goal. When the organization first started out its goal was to help 150 people in its first year but as of date it has seen more than 500 people, Executive Director Jason Cuyler said. Second Street Second Chances works with current and formerly incarcerated individuals to provide the support that they need for a successful reintegration into the community.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The shelter at First Methodist Church is soon to open with a straightforward name that has a deeper meaning. ServiceNet's Director of Shelter and Housing Erin Forbush told the Homelessness Advisory Committee last week that the new facility is planned to open around the end of the month as the Pearl Street Shelter.
When people get to know the shelter and its staff, the hope is that it is referred to as "The Pearl."
Because the entrance to the shelter is on Pearl Street, the name was proposed to eliminate confusion because the building's frontage is on Fenn Street. There is also a sentimental interpretation.
