McCann Tech Students Plan Charity Run for Maui Fire Relief

CHESHIRE, Mass. — The McCann Tech cross country team on Sept. 16 will host a 5-kilometer trail run and 1 mile walk to benefit victims of August's fire in Hawaii.   The Walk/Run for Maui fund-raiser will take place at Whitney's Farm on Ingalls Road (follow the dirt road past the U-Pick blueberries).   Check in on Saturday, Sept. 16, will be at 7:30 a.m. The 5K trail run begins at 8:30, and the stroller-friendly 1 mile walk begins at 9:30.   The cost to register is $20 in advance or $25 the day of registration. Kids 10 and under can walk or run for free. A $3 credit card processing fee will be applied to all online registrations at

Warmer Temperatures This Labor Day Weekend

It will actually feel like summer this weekend with temperatures in the 80s.   Today Thursday, Aug. 31 there will be sunshine with temperatures in the low 70s.   The same can be expected Friday but with warmer temperatures in the high 70s, reports AccuWeather.   Saturday, Sept. 2 will be partly sunny with temperatures in the low 80s.   Sunday will be mostly sunny and more humid with temperatures again in the low 80s.   Monday will be in the mid-80s with mostly sunny skies, and Tuesday is set to be even warmer with temperatures possibly breaking into the 90s.

Driscoll Sees Renovations and Career Tracks at BCC

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll swung by Berkshire Community College on Wednesday for a tour of its educational facilities after making grant announcements in Stockbridge.

President Ellen Kennedy led Driscoll through the college's One Stop Center for student services, the Berkshire Science Commons maker space, BCC's nursing labs, and renovations to the Hawthorne and Melville halls.

They were joined by Mayor Linda Tyer and state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier.

Registration Open for Monument Cup 3-on-3 Soccer Tourney

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The 24th annual Monument Cup 3-on-3 soccer tournament returns on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Monument Mountain Regional High School.   The event features boys and girls divisions in the under-10, under-12 and under-14 age groups.   Teams of three to four players are guaranteed at least three matches. The top four teams in each division advance to the semifinals, with the championship matches played on the varsity field.   Teams are encouraged to wear their own handmade, creative uniforms.   Each division is limited to 16 teams. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Opening Reception will take place Sept. 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 during First Fridays Artswalk.    Karen Chase is an abstract painter, and Paul Graubard paints narrative, visionary works. They are married. This show highlights their individual pieces and one collaborative piece.   According to a press release:   Paul began to paint about 25 years ago, giving up his practice as a psychologist. The first thing he did was buy a big roll of white paper, then went to the hardware store to buy a can of black paint. Dalton Considers Implementing Climate Change Policy

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board is considering a climate-change policy to improve the town's chances of obtaining grants.    This policy is a significant commitment because it sets requirements that the department heads and the Finance Committee has to follow, Select Board chair Joseph Diver said at last week's meeting.    The board voted to postpone the decision until it can look into the topic further and until the policy is reviewed by Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson and department heads.   It is important that the department heads are involved in the conversation because of the impact it will have on them and the town as a whole, Diver

Berkshire Kickoff Classic Returns to Pittsfield

Pittsfield's 'Lest We Forget' Mural Gets New Life

PITTSFIELD, Mass.-— A memorial to the Vietnam War has a new life on Pearl Street after the mural was moved and revitalized.

On Tuesday, the city unveiled "Lest We Forget" mural in its new location surrounded by nearly 100 officials and community members.  

The artwork honors and remembers Berkshire County's military personnel who were killed in action in Vietnam and veterans of the war who are living today.  

"We are here today to honor that and remember these 27 veterans killed in action," said Fran Tremblay of Vietnam

Pittsfield Clerks Office Tests Ballots Ahead of Preliminary Election

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City clerk's office is preparing for a seamless election by testing all of the voting equipment.

On Tuesday, City Clerk Michele Benjamin, Assistant Clerk Heather Brazeau and Registrar of Voters Clerk Joshua Munn tested the ward and precinct ballot machines. The city has seven wards with each having a Precinct A and B.

For Benjamin, this election is protocol as usual.

"It's the same thing all the time," she said. "We don't do anything different."

The state requires that all machines be tested before they are sent out to the polls. Zero tapes are run to prove that there is no data on the storage cards and 50 test ballots

Deadline to Apply for RMV 2023 Low Number Plate Lottery

BOSTON —The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is reminding drivers that applications for the 2023 Low Number Plate Lottery are available online at myRMV Online Service Center and must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023.

Winners will be notified by mail if selected for a low-number plate. 

This year, there are 191 plates available through the low plate lottery. Some of the available low plates include 13F, 17V, 28E, Z64, 301, 1999, 4004, 4400, and 8511.

Applicants should note that there is no fee to apply for the lottery. However, should the applicant be selected as a winner, there is a special plate fee that will be required, as well as a
