PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There are potential candidates for all positions on the Nov. 4 ballot. There are several wards where only the incumbent councilor has taken out papers so far. It's election season again, and as of Thursday, potential candidates have taken out papers for city clerk, councilor at large, Wards 1-7, and the School Committee. Nomination papers became available on April 3, and certified papers are due by Aug. 1. A preliminary election will narrow the race down on Sept. 16 if a position has more than two candidates, or nine for at-large councilor. The six-person School Committee so far has only five potential candidates: incumbents Daniel Elias and Sara Hathaway,

The light spring ran didn't stop hundreds of children from darting across lawns and fields to search for treasure in the form of plastic eggs. Peter A. MassDOT, State Police, and AAA Remind Motorists to Slow Down in Work Zones 01:15PM / Saturday, April 19, 2025 | | BOSTON — Ahead of National Work Zone Awareness Week and as construction season gets underway, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), Massachusetts State Police, and AAA are reminding motorists to exercise caution when passing through active construction and maintenance projects.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Town officials will again propose a combined police and EMS facility to voters. This time, for a couple of million dollars more. On Monday, the Select Board voted to advance a $7.3 million combined police/emergency medical services facility to town meeting, discarding the option for a $6.5 million separate build. The same design, then priced at $5.9 million, was shot down in 2023. "We can't go to a town meeting and give them two options," said Selectman Timothy Sorrell, the town's former police chief. "We have to decide, I'm ready tonight to make a motion on what I think is the best decision." Members agreed that this option

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Humane Society is having a fee-waived adoption event for dogs one year and older. This event is called "Big Dog Energy" and is happening in many shelters across Massachusetts. It runs from April 22 through April 27. "There is still just an influx of adult dogs who are sitting in shelters," said Berkshire Humane Society's Executive Director John Perreault. Last year, the Berkshire Humane Society participated in a week of fee-waived adoptions for the Mass-Saves promotion, also because of an influx of adult dogs staying in the shelter. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Internet provider AccessPlus was recently awarded the Massachusetts Broadband Institute Retrofit program grant. "We are committed to delivering high-quality, high-speed internet to the Pittsfield community," said Kevin Alward, CEO of AccessPlus in a recent press release. "This grant allows us to further our mission of ensuring that everyone has access to the fast and reliable internet they need." The grant was a part of the Healey-Driscoll administration's $10.4 million initiative to modernize the public housing internet in Massachusetts. This grant will be used to bring high speed fiber internet to 13 multi-unit dwelling properties. This

 LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The springtime carnival will return to the Berkshire Mall property in a couple of weeks, if the hosts reach an agreement with emergency medical services. On Monday, the Select Board approved a community event application for Gillette Shows' carnival from May 1 to May 11, pending a reasonable donation to the Ambulance Gift Account for EMS services. "This isn't a new concept. We discussed this after last year's carnival," EMS Director Jen Weber said.
