PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Historical Commission approved the demolition of a residential and commercial property on Monday: 16 Von Nida St. and 108 West Housatonic St. Two years ago, the Von Nida Street home suffered an extensive fire that gutted the structure and it has been uninhabitable since. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With three cases of West Nile virus found in recent sampled mosquitos, the City Council on Tuesday will tackle requests to resume adulticide spraying. On the agenda is a petition from Ward 4 Councilor James Conant requesting to repeal the action that eliminated spray applications for the control of adult mosquitos and that the Board of Health and Conservation Commission develop guidelines and protocols on spraying. There is also a petition from Director of Public Health Andy Cambi asking the City Council to rescind the vote of no spraying in Pittsfield and review the Berkshire County Mosquito Control program. A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck operated by a Mark Papkey, 52 of Pittsfield, was traveling north bound on Merrill Road, when he collided with a south bound 2006 Subaru Forester operated by a Parkpoom Seesangrit, 34 years of age of Pittsfield. In addition to Mr. Seesangrit, the Subaru was also occupied by Phannee Seesangrit, 61 of Pittsfield, as well as Krobkul Seesangrit, 35 of Pittsfield. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A new pickleball facility is coming this fall. Located in the northeast corner of Springside Park near the Doyle Softball Complex on Benedict Road, it will feature six courts and a small parking lot. A groundbreaking scheduled for Monday was cancelled due to inclement weather but there are plans to unveil the finished project with a ribbon cutting in the fall. Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong and is suitable for singles and doubles.
