Pittsfield Christmas Tree Pickup Schedule

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Christmas tree pickup in the month of January will accompany the regular trash pickup schedule.   A breakdown of the schedule includes the following servicing information:   • The week of Jan. 9, Casella will pick up trees on Monday and Friday routes. • The following week of Jan. 16, they will pick up along the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday routes. • During the week of Jan. 23, Casella will resume tree collection with Monday and Friday routes. • Lastly, the week of Jan. 30, they will pick up trees according to the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday routes.   For more information, please call 499-9330.

Pittsfield Community Design Center Film Screening at Berkshire Athenaeum

Weekend Outlook: Hikes, Music, and Dances

Award-winning, Boston Based magician George Saterial will be performing at the Berkshire Museum this Saturday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m.

Watch as he demonstrates magic and illusions for audiences of all ages. Tickets range from $5 to $17 and include museum admission. Children 3 and under are free. More information here.

Second Street Receives Grant from Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Program

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 2nd Street, an organization supporting formerly incarcerated men and women in Berkshire County, has received a $75,000 grant from the Massachusetts Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant Program (CERP).    The competitive grant program was developed to support communities that have historically faced disproportionate challenges to economic growth, specifically those with high rates of incarceration and/or recidivism, widespread poverty and large groups of disadvantaged and underrepresented populations.   The award is part of more than $17 million in CERP grants for 66 projects throughout the Commonwealth, according to the Baker-Polito

Healey and Driscoll Names Massachusetts' First Climate Chief

Women of Color Giving Circle to host Kwanzaa Celebration

Pittsfield Year in Review 2022

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 2022 was a year of social justice issues, large sums of federal funding, and changes within the city. 

Homelessness continued to be a strong presence in the community after it was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the community called for police accountability and mental health resources after a man in distress was shot and killed by police following a 911 call. 

The city also grappled with allocating nearly $41 million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funding for eligible programs, services, and capital investments.

Pittsfield Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Office Has Successful First Year

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In its inaugural year, the city's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has opened up the conversation about creating safe and equal spaces for all community members.

"I would say that almost a full year has gone very, very well, exceptionally well," Chief Diversity Officer Michael Obasohan said about the work that has been done internally within the city departments and externally with other organizations.

He was appointed in February after the City Council approved a new six-month budget of $99,760 for the department during its fiscal 2022 budget process.

For the fiscal year 2023, that number increased to  $169,416.
