PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) announces a new culinary apprenticeship program that combines instruction in the classroom and in a teaching kitchen with professional work in the field. The certificate program begins this fall, and applications are being accepted now. Student apprentices are paid — and, thanks to the Commonwealth's MassEducate program, students of all ages can qualify for free tuition and fees. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield Police Officer Michael Doyle is credited for saving lives when he detected an early morning fire over the weekend.
"It is very rare that a first responder observes a possible structure before it is even detected by residents, but on August 24th Pittsfield Police Officer Michael Doyle was in the right place at the right time," the department wrote on its Facebook page.
Doyle was on patrol Saturday when he noticed smoke coming from a residential area east of downtown around 1 a.m. Police say that recognizing the potential for significant danger, he alerted dispatch and drove to the area of Fenn St. and Third St., exited his cruiser, and

This evening service is for BRTA Paratransit customers travelling from Pittsfield to Pittsfield, Monday – Saturday, 7 PM-10 PM. This project aims to enhance and expand the ability for eligible BRTA Paratransit customers, that require an accessible vehicle for travel in the evenings to destinations within Pittsfield. The annual event unites the community to raise funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric care and research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A 2-alarm structure fire at a Woodlawn Avenue apartment building left the building uninhabitable. The Pittsfield Fire Department was dispatched to a five-family at 181 Woodlawn Ave. around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire in the back of the downstairs apartment extending to the second floor. The blaze was under control in about an hour. Building Owner Jeremiah Ames, principal of Lenox Memorial High School, reported that all tenants described the fire as coming on "very, very fast." "All of our tenants are safe.  Leigh Davis will run on the Democratic party line in November to fill the 3rd Berkshire House seat being vacated by William "Smitty" Pignatelli. At just after 10:30 on Tuesday evening, with 97 percent of the votes counted, the Associated Press called the Democratic primary for Davis, a member of the Great Barrington Select Board. She had 56 percent of the votes, well ahead of her nearest challenger, Patrick White, who had 37 percent. Jamie Minacci was running a distant third with 6 percent of the votes that were in.
