Section 1 Champion Pittsfield drops into the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will face Melrose on Friday evening to stay alive. Bridgewater Friday night will take on Acton-Boxboro, an 8-4 winner over Melrose on Friday, for a berth in Sunday’s state final. Devin Reynolds doubled in a run for Pittsfield Post 68 (14-2), which jumped on top early with two runs in the first inning and two in the second. Gov. Maura Healey announced some $39 million in CDBG grant awards to 65 communities at Chelsea City Hall on Thursday. Pittsfield Advises Against Contact with Housatonic for 48 Hours after Accidental DischargeStaff Reports, iBerkshires 08:53AM / Thursday, July 25, 2024 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield is advising people to avoid contact with the Housatonic River until late Friday night after an accidental discharge of untreated wastewater near 901 Holmes Road. The Department of Public Services and Utilities sent the notification by email to local media at 11:06 p.m. on Wednesday. The notification indicates the discharge began at 9:06 p.m. on Wednesday and lasted 19 minutes, until 9:25 p.m. During that period, the discharge volume was 187,500 gallons, the notification indicates. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town recognizes the need for additional resources to clear damage from last week's storm. On Monday, the Select Board voted to allocate additional funds for the highway department to come in on a Friday for brush collection. The Town Hall and offices normally operate on a four-day week Monday through Thursday. "Just to be clear we do have overtime in the appropriated budget that gets allocated for the year," Town Administrator Gina Dario explained. Earl Giver Essien, who would have entered eighth grade in the fall, was remembered for her brightness in personality and academics.
