DALTON, Mass. — The library trustees navigated the best way to spend the state aid during their meeting on Monday evening. This year, the library received $19,928.23 from state aid, which has to be used to improve the library and the patron experience. The library receives two state aid disbursements every year. The amounts vary annually based on population and other factors. Library Director Janet Forest said she is interested in having the library invest in a screen and a projector.  LENOX, Mass. — Lenox Memorial High School has named Genevieve Collins as valedictorian and Alice Culver the salutatorian of the class of 2024. Graduation ceremonies will be held on Sunday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Tanglewood. Collins, daughter of Edward and Deanna Collins of Lenox, is a member of National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. She is a captain of the Lenox track and field and cross-country teams, as well as a peer mentor. She has spent 12 years singing for the choir at St. Ann's Church in Lenox, and has sung in the All-State chorus in 2022 and 2023.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The senior class at Pittsfield High School has elected Frankielys Payano De La Cruz, Abigail Malumphy, Brooke Tripicco to speak at graduation this Sunday, June 9, at 4 p.m. The ceremony will return to the grounds of Tanglewood in Lenox this year after a five-year hiatus. Tripicco will be attending Clark University in Worcester and is planning to double major in English and education, and possibly minor in sociology.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — For the 2024-2025 academic year, Berkshire Music School (BMS) will offer increased need-based financial aid for private lessons, as well as talent- and merit-based scholarships to attract musicians in the region. Students accepted into BMS' Talent & Merit Scholarship Program will benefit from financial assistance, up to 100 percent tuition. In the 2023-2024 academic year, Berkshire Music School awarded more than $28,000 in need-based financial aid and merit-based scholarships to 32 students. Michael Gilardi, founder of Berkshire Mountain Pickleball, says the group has grown from 10 to more than 400 in a few years. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mayor Peter Marchetti christened the city's new pickleball facility on Thursday.
The match including himself, Parks Commissioner Cliff Nilan, Tony Riello, and Kelly Maginnis of Berkshire Mountain Pickleball, was the first after a ribbon cutting that officially opened the courts.
Marchetti said these courts are a great addition to our outdoor recreation landscape and we hope we could do more in the future.
