PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of Health wants to handle mosquito control as a city, not just as a board. The panel continued its vote on the 2024 mosquito control plan during its regular meeting on Wednesday, two days after a public hearing with divided input on adulticide spraying. Rather than approving the same one from last year, Director of Public Health Andy Cambi wants a 2024 plan that incorporates improvements for better mosquito management and collaboration with city officials. "In writing, what is the board's authority, having the conversations that we are going to have in the following weeks. I'm happy to set those up with everyone to join

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Hills County Club is seeking a variance on its pool permit to allow for cost savings on staff members starting next year, including fewer lifeguards. The club seeks to increase the patron-to-lifeguard ratio from 25:1 to 40:1, though the 50-person pool capacity will remain and there will always be two guards on watch. The Board of Health on Wednesday seemed approving of the idea, though a vote was not taken. Berkshire Hills board member Sheila Labarbera explained that they are looking for some relief from the rotation of employees required on-site with a potential cost savings of more than $50,000 annually. The pool has been

Gulf Road in Dalton and Lanesborough Re-OpensBy Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff 05:38PM / Monday, May 06, 2024 | | LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — After being closed for more than two years, Gulf Road reopened on Wednesday for the season. For the last week, the town Highway Department has been clearing up fallen trees and graded the stretch of road on both its side and Dalton's side on Wednesday, Lanesborough Department of Public Works Director Charlie Durfee said. Letter: Homelessness May Have Contributed to Murder of Pittsfield ResidentLetter to the Editor, 04:00PM / Monday, May 06, 2024 | |
To the Editor: At the turn of the century, I returned to Berkshire County, where I had grown up. I had been gone a score of years, starting just after high school. It is hard to impress how halcyon Pittsfield was in the '60s-'80s. Crime was virtually unheard of. During the '90s, when Pittsfield was in the very beginning of its economic downturn brought on by GE downsizing, there was little crime in Pittsfield. Historians generally agree that the 1990s represented a national high-water mark from crime, but the Berkshires by and large ducked it. I remember sitting

A couple of stops will be on Center Street and there will be regular stops on Tyler and Seymour Streets. "This is the 50th year as a transit authority. We're kind of doing a two-fold thing. Since 1974, it's been primarily a flag service where you just stand and hail a bus like a cab. For numerous reasons it's very
