Letter to the Editor,
03:00PM / Monday, March 25, 2024

To the Editor:

This letter was ignored by the Berkshire Eagle

Friday, March 8, was International Women's Day. Here in the Berkshires, it was celebrated by the Zonta club, an International Women's Leadership organization, by honoring six dynamic women from our community at a special dinner that attracted over 200 attendees.

This diverse group of women has made monumental contributions from coaching young professionals to build careers here to providing over two million diapers to those in need. These women aren't CEOs of big corporations and they didn't develop the latest app. They excelled by giving their time, skills and in most cases their own money for the benefit and

By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Health will collaborate with the building department to modify the demolition guidelines checklist.    The current checklist does not clearly outline the board's responsibilities when approving a demolition or the items the board is responsible for, Health Agent Agnes Witkowski said.    The building inspector suggested that the board adopt the checklist, which came from another town.   Previous board members approved adopting it in 2022 but since then people have been directed to go to the Board of Health regarding demolitions. DALTON, Mass. — Central Berkshire Regional School Committee approved an amended version of its 2024-2025 school calendar that removed a controversial religious holidays' box.   The box listing major religious holidays was originally included to inform teachers of what days students may be absent or fasting. The decision at the March meeting passed 10-4, with one abstaining.    "I do not feel the religious holidays should be listed on here, given that I know that one of the justifications in other times were that these are days that teachers should be aware that they might have students that are either out or they might be fasting," School Committee member

Developer Robert Shan reported that it could cost as much as $20 million and planners are vying for $10 million through the MassHousing CommonWealth Builder Program created to facilitate the construction of single-family homes and condominiums affordable to households with moderate incomes.
