SUTTON, Mass. -- The Williamstown 10-and-under Cal Ripken baseball all-stars fell to 1-1 in pool play at the state tournament with a 7-6 loss to Hudson on Saturday afternoon.
Williamstown rallied from a 6-4 deficit to tie it in the top of the sixth thanks to a one-out RBI single by Alex Axt and a bases loaded walk drawn by Miles Cece. Hudson pitcher Brady Stewart fielded a line drive back to the mound and got a strikeout to end the threat.
Hudson then won the game in the bottom of the inning.
Axt ended up going 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Jake Cangelosi and Landen Jamula split time on the mound. Cagelosi started and went 4-1/3, striking out two with three walks.
All four teams in Williamstown's pool are tied at 1-1 with one game for each on Sunday. If Williamstown beats Uxbridge and Hudson loses, Williamstown will advance to the semifinals. If both Williamstown and Hudson win, Williamstown will have a chance to advance based on a runs-allowed tie-breaker.
In Saturday's skills competition, the Williamstown quartet of Jamula, Oscar Low, Cece and Tristan Gardner finished second int he team relay running competition, and Jamula and Josh Polumbo were second, and third, respectively, in the home run derby.
