High School Students Complete Grant-Funded Internships

Driscoll Sees Renovations and Career Tracks at BCC

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll swung by Berkshire Community College on Wednesday for a tour of its educational facilities after making grant announcements in Stockbridge.

President Ellen Kennedy led Driscoll through the college's One Stop Center for student services, the Berkshire Science Commons maker space, BCC's nursing labs, and renovations to the Hawthorne and Melville halls.

They were joined by Mayor Linda Tyer and state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier.

BCC Signs Articulation Agreement with William James College

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) announces the signature of an articulation agreement with William James College (WJC) in Newton allowing BCC students to transfer seamlessly to WJC.     The articulation agreement provides guaranteed admission for eligible BCC students to obtain a bachelor of science degree from WJC. Students who have completed an associate degree at BCC with a minimum of 60 credits in Liberal Arts (no concentration), Liberal Arts with Psychology Concentration, Human Services/Social Work Transfer or Criminal Justice, with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher, are guaranteed admission in WJC's Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human

Central Berkshire Reviews Regional Agreement Draft

DALTON, Mass. — Central Berkshire Regional School District is referring a draft of a new regional agreement to its lawyers to ensure clarity.    The School Committee meeting was presented the draft on Thursday by Todd Emerson, chair of the Regional Agreement Amendment Ad Hoc Committee.   The ad hoc committee has been working on the draft for the past year and received aid from Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools consultant Stephan Hemman. Central Berkshire OKs Locked Cell Phone Pouches

DALTON, Mass. — The Central Berkshire Regional School Committee approved utilizing Yondr pouches in its middle and high schools during its meeting on Thursday night.    The pouches allow cell phones and other devices to be locked magnetically so they cannot be used during school hours.    The district was approved for a $20,000 grant to cover the first year costs of the initiative. The funds will cover the cost of the pouches, replacement pouches, training, the permanent infrastructure, including the magnet installations, and support during this change.    The goal of the policy change is to help students be more engaged in school and to prevent students

Governor Launches Free Community College Program

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The August Teacher of the Month is 18 Degrees prekindergarten teacher Celia Armstrong.    The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next nine months in partnership with Berkshire Community College.   Armstrong has been working in the education field for the last four years, getting her start as a substitute at 18 Degrees.    She was looking for a position that would provide flexible hours while she attended Berkshire Community College and was referred to 18 Degrees by a friend. She graduated from MCLA with a bachelor's degree in psychology and has resided in the area since then. Dalton Welcomes Born Learning Trail at Pinegrove Park

Suggestions on how to use the Born Learning Trail. 

DALTON, Mass. — Pinegrove Park now has a Born Learning trail that provokes new ways of play for children.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was on Friday held for the trail that is part of a national campaign by United Way. Accompanying 10 stations with suggestions for interacting are sidewalk illustrations by Dee Sabean and Gary Davis that were colored in by volunteers.

The addition was originally proposed by Wendy Provencher, Central Berkshire Regional School District's family and community engagement coordinator.
