PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Gertrude Mae Sumner, 91, of 159 Valentine Road, formerly of Stamford, Vt., died Thursday April 25, 2013 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Clarksburg on Jan. 14, 1922, daughter of James H. and Pauline Cardinal Witto, she attended Clarksburg schools.
Mrs. Sumner was last employed at the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown until 1966.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Stuart Harlow Sumner Sr., whom she married Dec. 23, 1936, died Sept. 30, 1981.
She leaves two daughters, Anita Glass of Tampa, Fla., and Janice Gottardi of Terrell, Texas; two sons, Stuart H. Sumner Jr. of Ashfield and Roger E. Sumner of Pittsfield; a sister, Jean Bushika of Stamford; 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Her son Walter A. Sumner Sr., a grandson Michael Sumner and siblings Ruth Sumner, Katherine Amlaw and James Witto predeceased her.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Sumner will be private. Burial will be in Millard Cemetery in Stamford.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, MA 01247.
