Virginia Mumford, 87

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Virginia Mumford, 87, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 11, 1926, daughter of Leon and Frances Alderman, she attended schools in North Adams, graduating with honors with the Drury High School lass of 1944. She received the Becker College Award for Excellence in Commercial Subjects.
Mrs. Mumford worked as a secretary at the former Ralston Purina Co. in North Adams before her marriage.
She was a parishioner at St. Charles' Church in Pittsfield and the Chapel of the North American Martyrs in Berkshire Village. She was active in many church fund-raising activities. She was a member of the Lanesborough PTA and spent many hours baking and knitting to help support this organization.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed making a warm and inviting home for her family.
Her devoted husband and best friend, Richard F. Mumford, whom she married June 19, 1948, died on June 19, 1999. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998.
She leaves her daughter, Gail Kinnick and her husband, Michael, of Furlong, Pa.; three sons, Robert Mumford and his wife, Ann, of Washington, D.C., James Mumford and his wife, Theresa, of Grafton, and Stephen Mumford and his wife, Dee Dee, of Watertown, Wisc.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Mumford; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her eldest son, Richard F. Mumford III, died on Dec. 26, 2011.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Mumford will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Donations can be made in her memory to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 877 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 141, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
