PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Wilbur W. Burchard, 88, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 14, 1925, the son of Emile A. and Frances E. Griffin Burchard, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, his service was in the Pacific theater from 1943 to 1946, during which he participated in action against the enemy on Iwo Jima.
Mr. Burchard was employed with the Postal Service until his retirement.
An avid ham radio operator, his call sign was AB1Y.
His wife, the former Marie E. Ramos, whom he married Nov 23, 1953, died May 1, 2011.
He leaves a son, Robert Burchard and his wife, Debra, and their children John and Nicholas, all of Stamford, Vt.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Franklin Burchard and Clifford Burchard and his sister, Burdella "Betty" Baker.
 FUNERAL NOTICE — A private graveside service is planned. Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.
