Edith I. Stewart, 83, of 27 Partridge Road, formerly of Sutton, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Worcester on Sept. 26, 1917, daughter of Albert and Christina Bengston Hall, she was raised in Sutton and had resided in Pittsfield for many years.
Mrs. Stewart was employed as a nurse at the former Pittsfield General Hospital and also did private duty nursing in Pittsfield.
She was a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church. Her husband, Walter Stewart, died in 1980.
She leaves two daughters, Gloria E. Stewart of Elburn, Ill., and Carolyn A. Benscoter of Windsor; a sister, Margaret A. Tamutis of Cherry Valley, and a grandson. A son, Robert A. Stewart, died in 1995.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in First Congregational Church, 312 Boston Road, on the Common, Sutton. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in MULHANE HOME FOR FUNERALS, 45 Main St., Route 122A, Millbury.
