PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Celia M. DeCario, 96, of Sunrise, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at her home.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 13, 1918, a daughter of Foca "Frank" and Vittoria Salvaggio DeCario, she attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1937. She also attended Berkshire Business College.
Miss DeCario was employed by the Social Security Administration in Pittsfield for 35 years, retiring in 1975. She first worked with the War Department in Washington, D.C., beginning in 1940, and transferred to the Springfield Armory until 1945.
She moved to Hollywood, Fla., in 1975 and to Sunrise. She was a former communicant of the former Mount Carmel Church and of St. Bernard's Church in Sunrise. She enjoyed bingo, traveling and spending time with her friends.
She leaves her two sisters, Frances Barile of Sunrise and Josephine Contenta of Pittsfield; her loving nieces and nephews: Antonia Sexton and her husband, David, of Davie, Fla., Julie Devlin and her husband, Bernie, of Weston, Fla., Teresa Barile of Sunrise, Julianne Thompson and her husband, Paul, of Elon, N.C., Kathleen Kowalczek and her husband, Joe, of Suffield, Conn., and Victoria Janeczek and her husband, Ken, of Hampden, Frank Contenta and his wife, Liz, of Pittsfield and David Contenta and his wife, Karen, of Wethersfield, Conn., also 17 great-nieces and great-nephews
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Rosati.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Miss DeCario will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home at 5 Elm St., Pittsfield.
