Albert C. Russo, 97

LENOX, Mass. — Albert C. Russo, 97, of 329 Pittsfield Road, Devonshire Estates, formerly of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in Pittsfield on July 17, 1918, son of Antonio and Maria Lupisella Russo, he attended Pittsfield Schools.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific for four years on the USS Beale.

Mr. Russo was employed as a plumber for 51 years. He worked for various plumbing shops in Berkshire County and retired in 1983.  

He had been a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield, and was a member of its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of Plumbers Union Local 151 of Pittsfield, a former member of Berkshire Hills Country Club and an avid golfer and fisherman.

His first wife, the former Jennie C. Volpi, died on Oct. 2, 1974.

He leaves his second wife, the former Monica F. Ayers Hilchey, whom he married on April 29, 1983; his daughter, Sharon M. Martin and her husband, Anthony, of Dalton; three stepsons, David W. Hilchey of North Adams, Charles J. Hilchey and his wife, Gayle, of Demopolis, Ala., and Scott E. Hilchey and his wife, Paula, of Cheshire; three stepdaughters, Ellen L. Johnson and her husband, Daniel, of the state of Washington, and JoAnn Long and Kim M. Ross, both of Frederick, Md.; a brother, Anthony Russo of Lilburn, Ga.; a sister, Mary Pizzuto of Stone Mountain, Ga.;12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Rocco J. Russo, Joseph P. Russo, Carmen Russo, Thomas Russo and Frank Russo, who died in World War II, and a stepdaughter, Donna L. Mahar.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Russo will take place Monday, Feb. 15, at 9 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Sacred Heart Church, 196 Elm St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Peter M. Naranjo II, parochial vicar, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hour will be Sunday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
