Maurice ‘Mike’ Carron, 90

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Maurice N. "Mike" Carron, 90, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshire Town Apartments, passed away on Friday evening, April 15, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. 



Born in Pittsfield on March 5, 1926, he was the son of the late Neal and Madge Mayhew Caron. A longtime Pittsfield resident, he was educated in local schools and proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. 



He married his first wife, the late Patricia Reid Carron, in 1948. She died in 2002. Mr. Carron was employed for more than 30 years at General Electric in Pittsfield, retiring in 1988. 



A well-known area musician, he was a member of the Musicians Union and the band The Fabulous High Fi's for 35 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard and the Pittsfield Auxiliary Police Department.



He enjoyed hiking, hunting, drawing and painting. He enjoyed World War II history and building scale model ships, airplanes and tanks. 



He leaves his wife, the former Joan A. Turner, whom he married on June 5, 1995, in Pittsfield; three daughters, Michele Provencher and her husband Rob of Hinsdale, Maureen Osier of Dalton and Joni Carron of Pittsfield; daughter-in-law Wendy Carron; a son, Michael J. Carron and his wife Cyndi of Wilbraham; a stepson, Edward J. Simmons Jr. and his wife Jean of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Diane Curran of Indianapolis, Ind.; stepchildren Penny and Jim Smith; 10 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-granddaughter. 



He was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Caron; a son, David M. Carron; a grandson, Matthew Provencher; and a great-granddaughter, Raquelle Paris. 



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Maurice N. "Mike" Carron, who died April 15, 2016, will be held Tuesday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. A private graveside service will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery. 



Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of "Mike" may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or Activity Department of Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in care of the funeral home.
