PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Richard Dale Fothergill, 67, of Pittsfield died Thursday, July 28, 2016.



Born in St. Albans, Vt., on December 25, 1948, he was the son of John and Marian Fothergill and brother of John Fothergill of Westfield, Mass., and Sandra Danforth of Bennington, Vt.



On October 14, 1967, Richard married the love of his life, Ellen Mullins of Bennington, Vt. Together they had two daughters, Tammy Walger (Eric) and Amy Lucey (Robert), both of Pittsfield. He was PopPop to five grandchildren, Emily Davison, Bryn Blackmer, Jaelyn Lucey, Hunter Lucey and Cody Lucey. His family was his most prized possession.



Richard began his career in papermaking first at Ben-Mont in Bennington, Vt., then moved onto the Old Stone Mill in Adams, Mass. In 1983, with his business partner and good friend Douglas Small, Richard opened his own hand-screen printed wallpaper business, New England Handprints, Inc., in Adams, Mass.



Richard's best times were spent on the many camping trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Disney World with family and friends.

Richard was a loving husband, an amazing father and grandfather, a respected boss and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.



Funeral notice: A celebration of Richard's life will be held at the Polish Falcons Club, 32 Belair Ave., Pittsfield, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made directly to UCP of Berkshire County, 208 West Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. It was through UCP's DME Reuse program that Richard was able to obtain an electric scooter to help him with his mobility needs. Arrangements are being handled by Dery Funeral Home.
