Joseph H. Doucette, 84

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Joseph Hermel Doucette, 84, of 44 Grace Terrace died Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Keegan, Maine, the son of Joseph O. and Annie Cyr Doucette, he was a 1951 graduate of Van Buren High School and attended the Marist Seminary in New Bedford. As a child the schools in his area would close for a week and the families would help with the local potato farms.
A Korean War veteran, he served with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Mr. Doucette was employed by General Electric Company where he worked in Quality Control in the Naval Systems Ordnance Division. He retired in 1992 with 37 years service. He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs. Following retirement, he volunteered at the National Archives on Dan Fox Drive.
Mr. Doucette was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and had been a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church. He was a member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was active in fundraising, the Dalton American Legion, and the GEAA where he enjoyed playing golf. He had also coached at the Catholic Youth Center.
He was a Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics fan, Notre dame college sports, coaching at the CYC, as well as enjoyed hockey and skiing.
Mr. Doucette leaves his wife of 61 years, he former Ann DiMise, whom he married June 18, 1955; three daughters, Shirley Palardy and her husband Joe of Pittsfield, Marie Cahill and her husband Ted of Pittsfield and Linda Scalise and her husband Arthur of Upton, Mass.; two sons, Ronald Doucette and his wife Bonnie of Barnstable, Mass., and Paul Doucette and his fiancée Nora Martindale of Dalton; a sister, Cecile Dimise of Pittsfield; 12 grandchildren, Jaqueline, Joy, Richard, Shaunna, Jennnifer, Amy, Jill, Holly, Mark, Andrew, Cody, Matthew and Rachael; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Austin and Charlotte.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Yvon Doucette, Arthur Doucette and Lionel Doucette; two sisters, Rita English and Antoinette Twing; and his dog, Sophie.
Funeral notice: Funeral services for Joseph H. Doucette will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 9:15 a.m. from Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, October 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Scholarship Fund or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
