Larry Newmark

October 30, 2021

Larry Newmark, son of the late Helen and David Newmark, passed away peacefully on October 30th in his hometown of Pittsfield, MA at the age of 75. Larry was always private with his emotions and, keeping true to form, passed just 17 days after being diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer.

"Papa”, as he is known to his four grandchildren, grew up in Brooklyn, NY and spent time in Delmar, NY, Lenox, MA and Avon, CT before returning to the Berkshires with his family in 1987 during a lifelong career with GE Plastics. Larry was a passionate fan of all things Penn State, where he earned his degree in Chemical Engineering and marched as a trumpet playing member of the University's Blue Band. After retiring from General Electric, Larry started his own consulting firm, LJN Partnership, where he shared his Kaizen Black Belt expertise with several organizations around the northeast.

Larry was a gifted storyteller who could light up a room with the most hilarious details and stories (many of which he told over and over) of a life well-traveled far and wide. Many of his travels centered around his love of fishing, with annual trips to Maine on his bass boat, and countless adventures to Canada, New Mexico, Montana, and Wyoming for fly fishing adventures. His expert level fly-tying skills and unique appreciation for the craft made his days on the stream much more than a hobby, but rather his lifetime passion.  Larry also had a true love of the game of golf and was a long-time member of Pittsfield Country Club. Golf also blended with his love of travel and spending time with his friends and family, including 21 years of trips with his sons (Jason and Brian) and his closest buddies, who he referred to as "the boys", for their annual "Who's Your Daddy" golf tournament.

Larry had a unique connection with dogs and spent his life with golden retrievers wagging tails by his side. He loved sharing a bottle of good wine, watching endless hours of TV in his chair, enjoying "sensational" steaks, and was known to consider a plate of fine cheese a meal. Most of all, he loved spending time with his four grandkids, making them laugh with his silly stories and groan-worthy Dad jokes. He will be deeply missed.

Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Faith Newmark (Pittsfield, MA), son Jason Newmark and daughter-in-law Kristen Newmark and their daughters Abby and Reese (Longmeadow, MA), son Brian Newmark and daughter-in-law Lauren Newmark and their children Zackary and Callie (Carlsbad, CA) and his sister Bonnie Raphael (Chapel Hill, NC).

SERVICES: Friends of Larry and family are invited to attend an outdoor service in the new Temple Anshe Amunim Section of the Pittsfield Cemetery (Onota St.) at 2pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Shiva will be observed at the Newmark residence on Wednesday (6:30-8:30pm), Thursday (6:30-8:30pm), and Friday (2:00-4:00pm).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Larry's memory may be made to the Lusgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research (lustgarten.org).  Those interested may make contributions in the form of checks made out to the “Lusgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research” and mailed to the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
