Fuad K.F. Ameen, 89

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —  



Fuad Kassim Farris Ameen, also known to many as “Fu”, of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away on November 2, 2022 after a short illness. Born in North Adams, Mass. on April 29th, 1933, he was the son of Kassim and Margaret Ameen and graduated from Drury High School (1951) also in North Adams. In his earlier days in North Adams, Fuad was a member of the North Adams City Recreation Commission where he served for six years. He initiated and ran several city sponsored semi-pro basketball and fast pitch softball leagues very popular in those early days. He also was secretary and administrator of the North Adams YMCA and ran the city church basketball leagues. More recently, Fuad was a member of the board of Directors for the United Cerebral Palsy Berkshire County Chapter as well as a member of the GE Pensioner’s Club, the ELFUN Society and the Quarter Century Club. Fuad’s main interest in life was art and he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Mass in Amherst, Mass. He also received his Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Berkshire Community College and attended Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts as well. An accomplished artist, Fuad’s paintings hang in several Berkshire County permanent collections as well as in the state capital at Albany, New York. He was a former member of the Massachusetts Academic Artists Association, the Southern Vermont Art Center as well as several Massachusetts and Berkshire Art Associations. During his professional career, Fuad supervised and managed the Engineering Art and Industrial Design Departments at the Pittsfield General Electric Ordnance facilities in Pittsfield, Mass., where he mentored many young artists prior to his retirement in 1991. Fuad’s other interests in life included hunting, archery, fly fishing, gardening, writing and most importantly his family and grandchildren. An accomplished fly fisherman, Fuad spent most of his life on area and Vermont trout streams. He was a past president and secretary of the Greylock Sportsmen Club in Northern Berkshire and was an honorary member of Berkshire County Sherriff’s as well as a past member of the Greylock Lodge of Masons in North Adams, MA. Fuad leaves his wife of 59 years, Mary Frances Schneider Ameen and two daughters, Nazira Ameen Librizzi, her husband Chris, and two grandchildren, Zachary and Ava Librizzi all of Rhode Island. His other daughter, Maneera Ameen Murphy and her husband Shaun Murphy with grandchildren, Andrew and Molly, all reside in Pittsfield, MA. His wonderful grandson Patrick Murphy predeceased Fuad.



Fuad further leaves his brother Edward Ameen and his wife Barbara of Cheshire, Mass. as well as four sisters, Jeanette and Maneera Ameen of Cheshire, Nazeerah Sookey of Adams, and Christine Maher of Williamstown, MA., along with his Sister in Law, Marge Biernacki of Pittsfield, Mass. His other brother, Richard, as well as sisters Dorothy and Julia predeceased Fuad. Fuad also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. Fuad was a communicant of St. Charles Church in Pittsfield MA where he and his wife served on various ministries. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8th at 12 Noon in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the service, in the funeral home.
