Evelyn W. Robie Carolan, 87, formerly of 372 West St., died yesterday morning at Hillcrest Commons after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on June 15, 1913, daughter of George and Katherine Keresey Horner, she was educated in local schools.
She was one of the first women employed by GE as a design-draftsman. She retired in 1979 after 40 years of service.
She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality, and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the GEAA, and the Women's Club of Pittsfield. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Berkshire Skating Club.
Her husband, John J. Carolan, died in 1961.
She leaves a daughter, Carolyn R. McMahon of Pittsfield; a son, David F. Carolan of Sheffield; two brothers, George E. Horner of Silver Springs, Fla., and John R. Horner of Selkirk, N.Y.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:15 from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
