PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Christopher Michael Huban, 70, of Orlando, Fla, died tragically on April 14, 2025.
Born in Pittsfield on November 8, 1954, to Martin Lawton and Rose Plummer Huban, Chris was the third of seven children. Chris was educated at Pittsfield High School with the Class of 1972. He attended Berkshire Community College and graduated from Union College with a B.S. in Biology. He also graduated from UMass Amherst with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He earned his M.B.A.in Finance from Temple University.
Chris met Valerie Depew in the late 1970s. Though she declined to give him the sandwich she was eating when they first met, he would not be deterred, and they fell in love. On Aug. 29, 1980, the two married at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield.
Chris was a talented athlete, excelling in soccer, basketball and track. He earned a National Coaching License and Soccer Referee License. In 2008 he was inducted into the Berkshire County Soccer Hall of Fame, and in 2019, he was inducted into the Union College Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 1975 Mens' Soccer Team.
Over a nearly 50-year career in chemical engineering, Chris worked for Texaco, Betz Industrial,the Hercules Group, GE, Ferrate Treatment Technologies, and Natural Medicinals. Outside of work, he enjoyed coaching and playing soccer, tinkering with all manner of contraptions, spending time with his family, and playing games.
Chris is survived by his wife, Valerie Huban, three sons, Matthew and wife Lindsay of Colorado Springs, CO, Andrew of Glenside,PA and Tristan and wife Andrea of Conshohocken, PA. He was the beloved Grampy to four granddaughters, McKayla, Ashley, Ryleigh, and Elizabeth. Chris will always be missed by his siblings, Barbara, Kathy, Patrick, Tim, Martin and Ann.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. at East Lawn Cemetery & Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel, 605 Main Street, Williamstown, MA 01267. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations to the American Red Cross or your place of worship. In honor of Chris, attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite colorful golf shirt or sports team shirt.
