Joseph F. Marzano

Joseph F. Marzano, 83, of 108 Fourth St. died Wednesday at Parkview Specialty Hospital in Springfield.

Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 16, 1920, son of Frank and Theresa Caccamo Marzano, he attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1939.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Rhineland and Central Europe.

He received several decorations and citations.

Mr. Marzano was manager and later vice president of the former Stratton Coats Inc. on Columbus Avenue and then he became plant manager of Forecaster Coats Manufacturing in Boston, retiring in 1986.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and bowling.

He leaves two sons, Eric J. Marzano Sr. of Derry, N.H., and Joseph F. Marzano of Tipp City, Ohio; two sisters, Isabelle Sibolski and Mary Meleca, both of Pittsfield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and his fiancée, Rose Vadala of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Joseph F. Marzano, 83, will take place Saturday, Feb. 28, at 8:30 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker CSS, pastor.

An inurnment service will take place Monday, March 1, at 1 at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 7.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Eric J. Marzano Jr., Courtney M. Marzano, Tara A. Marzano, Laurie A. Marzano, Lynn A. France; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn N. France and Colin E. France, and the love of his life and best friend, Rose Vadala of Pittsfield. His kindness, patience and willingness to help others made him a most special person and he will be greatly missed by his family, relatives, and his many friends, especially by Rose Vadala and her family.

He was predeceased by a brother, Francis Marzano, and two sisters, Angelina Guzzo and Rose Caccamo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
