Fred P. Johnson

Fred P. Johnson, 74, of 56 Michael Drive died Sunday at home.
Born in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 14, 1926, son of John H. and Louise Parmele Johnson, he attended schools there and received two baccalaureate degrees, one in psychology and the other in electrical engineering, from the University of Texas in Austin.
Mr. Johnson was a World War II Navy veteran.
He was employed by GE in Syracuse, N.Y., from 1957 until transferring to Pittsfield in 1963. He was manager of reliability engineering at the former GE ordnance plant, retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed bow hunting and producing maple syrup using the older technology. A musician, he played bass in several area small jazz bands. He also restored vintage Jeeps and his classic M.G.
He and his wife, the former Grace Vogt, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary Dec. 18.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Bruce W. Johnson of Austin; a daughter, Kristin L. Johnson of Lynn; three sisters, Sara Eugenia Richards and Mary W. Morgan, both of Austin, and Louise P. Johnson of Easthampton, and two grandchildren.
At Mr. Johnson's request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Clarke School for the Deaf or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
