Thomas Joseph Maguire

Thomas Joseph Maguire, 78, of 107 Allengate Ave. died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Lowell on Nov. 26, 1927, son of Philip and Alice Reidy Maguire, he was a 1945 graduate of Lowell High School and a 1951 graduate of Lowell Technical Institute.
A World War II Army veteran, he served as a private with Battery B, 14th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, from June 7, 1945, to April 30, 1947.
Mr. Maguire was employed by GE as a mechanical engineer. He retired in 1987 with 37 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of its Family Society.
He was also a member of the Irish-American Club and the Polish Falcons in Pittsfield and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
His first wife, the former Katherine Richards, died Nov. 15, 1974.
He and his wife, the former Virginia Gwozdz, were married Aug. 26, 1977.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Thomas Maguire of Boston, Dennis Maguire of Sunrise, Fla., Kevin Maguire of Pittsfield and Richard Maguire of Colchester, Conn.; three daughters, Katherine and Colleen Maguire, both of Pittsfield, and Sharon Maguire of West Greenwich, R.I.; a stepson, William Carpenter of Kennett Square, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Sally Munn of Redmond, Wash.; a brother, Jack Maguire of Erie, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Molin of South Grafton and Anne Claire McAnespie of Dracut, and 12 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Thomas Joseph Maguire, who died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, will be Monday, Dec. 19, at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary the Morning Star Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Maguire may be made to the American Heart Association or the Jimmy Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Maguire also leaves his sons-in-law, Alan Winsor and Robert Munn; his daughters-in-law, Cheryl Maguire, Sarah Carpenter and Geneva Maguire, and 12 grandchildren, Kelsey, Haley, Courtney, Katie, Andrew, Moniqura, Tomeka, William, Mathew, Caroline, Robert and Joseph.
