Grace V. Gilbert, 89, of Berkshiretown Apartments died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Haverhill, N.H., on April 2, 1917, daughter of Lucy Hardy Pike, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Mrs. Gilbert worked as a clerk at the former Zayre and Neisner department stores and at Dunkin' Donuts. During World War II, she was employed by General Electric Co.
She enjoyed country-western music and visiting the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Her husband, William Nelson Gilbert, whom she married May 31, 1933, died March 19, 1987.
She leaves two sons, Bruce F. Gilbert of Palm Bay, Fla., and Nelson L. Gilbert of Central, S.C.; three daughters, Barbara Cozine of Canton, Kan., Cheryl A. Gilbert of Pittsfield and Claudine V. Clarke of Decatur, Ga.; a brother, Francis Pike of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Grace V. Gilbert, who died Monday, June 26, 2006, will be conducted tomorrow, June 29, at 11 at Immanuel Community Church (corner of Melbourne Road and Chapel Street, Pittsfield) by the Rev. John T. Cunningham, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Kids Place in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mrs. Gilbert was predeceased by a brother, Amos Pike, who died during World War II, and by two sisters, Cora Greenleaf and Bernice Cornelio.
