Neta L. Poulton

Neta L. Poulton, 84, of Springside Nursing Home died Sunday of congestive heart failure after a long battle associated with a debilitating stroke.

Born in Norwich, Conn., on Sept. 10, 1922, daughter of Howard C. and Marie Collins Dodge, she contracted polio at a young age and, although she eventually recovered, was forced to abandon her formal education.

She moved to Pittsfield in 1928.

Mrs. Poulton was employed for many years by the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill, retiring in 1965.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church for more than 60 years.

She leaves a brother, Norman Dodge of Pittsfield, and a sister, Lillian T. Marchetti of Bristol, Conn.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for family members of Neta Poulton, who was called home to the Lord and His eternal peace on June 25, 2006, will be held Thursday at 2 with the Rev. Paul A. Bombadier of St. Mary's Church as celebrant.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will be beside her beloved mother, Marie Dodge, at the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield.

Neta also leaves five nieces, Jean Stanley of Pittsfield, Patricia Sawkiw of the state of Florida, and Theresa L. Corbin, Christine R. Marchetti and Marie J. Marchetti, who is also her godchild, all of Bristol Conn.; a nephew, Roy Whitaker Jr. of Pittsfield; a great-niece, Heather L. Dorsey-McCann of Cohasset, and a great-nephew, Justin T. Dorsey of Fitchburg. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Whitaker of Pittsfield, and her brother, Joe Dodge of Flint, Mich.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Neta's dear friend, the late Father Bill Murphy, who served as an African missionary, donations may be made to Maryknoll, P.O. Box 302, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0302.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all the staff members of Springside Nursing Home for their kindness and for the compassionate care that Neta received. Funeral arrangements for Neta are being handled by WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
