James E. Altman

James E. Altman, 71, of 37 Bossidy Drive died Sunday at home.

Born in Four Oakes, N.C., on Jan. 7, 1935, son of Samuel and Nettie Lee Altman, he graduated from high school in North Carolina.

He has resided in Pittsfield for the past 44 years.

Mr. Altman was the owner of Jim's Shoe Repair at 594 North St. for the past 15 years. Previously, he was employed by General Electric Co. in the power transformer department as a crane operator for 29 years.

He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club and the G.E. Pensioner's Club.

He and his wife, the former Rena Wynn, were married July 24, 1956.

Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Jackie Williams of Rex, Ga., Deborah Altman of Clayton, N.C., and Melonie Altman-Lasseter and Tia Altman, both of Springfield; four sons, Reginald Altman and Samuel Altman, both of Pittsfield, James Altman of Springfield and Richard Altman of Hartford, Conn.; a brother, Samuel Altman of Goldsboro, N.C.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- James E. Altman, who died Sunday, July 2, 2006, will be Thursday, July 6, at 11 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Cairey Gathers officiating.

Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday morning, from 9 till the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA 01201, in his memory.
